I keep thinking about this because I have a friend who broke her hip around age 60. To be fair, tripping over a box and falling on a concrete floor would have probably caused most of us to break something - she just happened to fall on her hip.

However, she's also always been extremely thin (due to IMO eating barely enough to stay alive), and never ate much at all in the way of meat. Since retirement and widowhood, she considers a cup of ramen or plain tomato soup to be a perfectly adequate meal on a very regular basis, and very rarely consumes any animal products at all, especially meat. She hates eggs, and the only fish/seafood she'll eat is crab cakes and tuna salad (once or twice yearly).

If the ones doing this study asked her what she ate, she'd probably truthfully say that she was a meat eater - but in reality, I'd consider her to be closer to a vegetarian (bordering on vegan), who rarely consumes a little bit of meat or other animal products.
