If your wife and kids don't have weight issues and they eat carby foods like you mentioned, then they don't have an insulin problem.

You are probably insulin resistant from years of over indulging, like a lot of us here. Now you must keep your insulin in check. However many carbs you decide to eat, be sure to always eat them with protein and fat to minimize your insulin output.
