I have just finished reading Davis' 2 Wheat Belly books and if I wasn't off grains before, I certainly am now. And I had no idea just how ubiquitous they are.

Although all low carb plans recommend eliminating grains because they are high carb, Davis talks about the deleterious effects of grain other that their carbohydrate content. Celiac disease for one.

When Davis talks about eliminating all grains (including alcoholic beverages made from grains) he talks about grains used in manufactured foods like soups and sausage. What an eye opener.

My take-away from his books is that it's not enough to avoid grains because they are high carb, avoid grains because of what they do to your body. Especially true for the development of auto-immune diseases.
