Dr. Unwin has received some accolades and awards for his success with his patients' diabetes remission and his resulting cost savings. It's not enough when the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) implies in their statement that the low carb approach is neither sustainable, using the term "short-term option," nor healthy when sat fats are consumed. Maybe the solution is for the NHS to put the GPs having success with lifestyle changes to achieve T2D remission in the UK on the advisory committee of the SACN. It is similar to the the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA). It's hard to find any DGA members who can claim no conflicts of interest and are promoting a whole food, low carb approach to nutritional health. These GPs who are courageous enough to challenge belief systems should be treated as experts who have the authority to review and create better policies. Use them as shining examples of clinical success. Not enough is being done today, especially in recognizing those nutritional approaches that are successful. In the US at least, it's become a cruel joke. I hope that we see some changes for the better soon.
