I think you made a good point about folks who has severe insulin problems and how well these folks respond to cutting way down on carbs, and cutting out starch and sugar. But not so sure about the alcoholism analogy. There is a lot of well researched debate in the addictions field regarding the 12 step programs..there are other successful programs that teach people 'controlled drinking' (moderation.)
Ultimately, Atkins leads you to moderation, and controlled eating as a WOL.
