Salad in a Mason Jar

This lady says she makes these all at once for a week! Makes salad look inviting, wouldn't you say? You'd have to have a pretty big bowl on hand though, right? :)

Thanks for posting this! :) I think that's an awesome idea. I love it. Going to create some tonight.

What a great idea and it looks so yummy. I've got to try these!

Huh! That's very clever. If you have a foodsaver and the jar lid adapter you can even pump the air out and keep them fresh longer.

Great idea! I like it.

Here's another idea from my maternal grandmother. When she came home from the grocery store she would not put the veggies away in the fridge immediately. Instead, she would put away the other groceries and then wash, trim, and chop all the vegetables so that they were ready to use before putting them in the fridge.

It's the same concept, really. You reach for the food that is ready to eat, or nearly ready to eat.

A friend of mine shared some links about vacuum sealing salad into jars like this, but I don't have the equipment to do that. Never thought to just keep them in there like that. She actually keeps all her food in jars like this and it's so pretty in the fridge, not to mention you can actually <see> what's in them. And using glass has got to be better than using plastic! :agree:

I try to get things cleaned and chopped. Sometimes I do better than other times. :)

I wish I could find mason jars that hold more than 1 quart.

Some of those look like they have shrimp in them...and she keeps them a week!!!

I bet she eats that one first!

I'm going away for the weekend and think I'll try this. I just need to go buy some jars tonight.

Have any of you tried these? How did it work out?

A week seems too long even for the chopped lettuce and veggies. I could see 3 days.

Yesterday I was making a salad for myself anyway so I made a second in a jar, with all the wet stuff at the bottom like this. I left out the dressing, though. It looks very pretty in the fridge.

I keep veggies for a week or so, depends on the veg. Those bagged salads usually keep for about 10 days.

I always take my dressing in a separate container.

OOOoooo that's a cool idea! I usually buy the bagged salads for convienience but they turn to slime a few days after I open them, THIS might be a better option! Cool! Thank you for posting :)

I have made these and they are pretty cool. I was thinking about maybe doing a prawn/shrimp one but am a little chicken about how that would keep. So, I was thinking. I wonder if you squirt a little lemon if the vegi(s) and shrimp my keep a little better? I also keep the dressing out. Gets mushy otherwise.
