I am also so sorry to hear about Dr. Atkins.

I knew that God would not let Dr. Atkins pass from anything that could remotely related to his diet.

Dr. Atkins will go down in history for his Diet Revolution!

The world has lost a great person. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, mother and friends during this very sad time in their lives.
My husband commented on how ironic it is that he suffered a lethal injury doing something that most would consider to be a healthy practice (walking to work).
What a tragedy.

I met Dr. Atkins recently, and I can't say that he was the most friendly or charismatic person. But he did do wonders for the diet world, and I appreciate his perserverence. It is really too bad that he couldn't have stuck around to a wee old age and continued to prove what LC could do! I wonder if someone else will step up to fill his position as the voice of LC--though no one could really replace him, of course.

We will miss him!

Thank god he lived long enough to see that NY Times article come out and to see the beginnings of his vindication (as if how many zillions of us faithful and dedicated low-carbers wouldn't have been enough!) What a tragic loss...just goes to show you that you never know which day will be your last, and you gotta live your life to the fullest! Sounds like he did! My condolences go out to the folks at the Atkins Center in NYC -- they must be just devastated.

I'm grateful, like everyone else, for the difference the doctor has made in my life.

I thought I'd post this quote which I think of every time some one I respect passes:

Quote:
Success: To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!

I just want to thank Dr. Atkins for challenging the medical establishment-this is a difficult thing for a Dr. to do and we all owe him a debt of gratitude. He went against conventional thinking because he knew it was in peopl'es best interest. He put his reputation and professional life on the line for us. May he rest in Peace.

from NPR

on NPR today
Following the sad news about Dr. A's passing they had a positive piece about the impact his NDR is having on Americans. They mentioned the recent findings about the WOE being possibly more benefical than first thought. That Dr. A. seemed to enjoy being that bit of a maverick from the medical establishment. They also addressed the impact we low carbers are having on the finances of food industries. Something like, "Well, Jenny Craig and WW aren't saying much, but certainly so many more low carb products are becoming available..." They also said additional data is being collected about the impact of lc longer term.

I checked their site a bit ago and it isn't on there - I'll look back to see if it can be linked tomorrow.

Did anyone else catch this about 4:30 PM?
