Psyllium husks

I ran a search on this, and I didn't see any mention of it (maybe the search isn't 100% effective?).

Am I the only person to use psyllium husks? I buy a can of the Yerba Prima stuff at my local health food place, and I love it. The stuff isn't necessarily intended as a recipe ingredient - the label boldly announces it as "COLON CLEANSER!"...but it works wonders for adding flour-like bulk to some recipes.

I occasionally make a pancake with the stuff, and today I added some to a muffin-like creation. The fiber boost certainly helps with the LC tendency for slower bowel action, and I wouldn't want to eat it every day...but it does have some nice applications.

Has anybody else tried this?

Yes. I occasionally do these buns from the dietdoctor.com website. I've also done these pitas/tortillas. There are many variations on this, if you google "psyllium tortillas".

I did notice a difference between brands. I've had to do some experimenting. I see this in the comments of recipe blog posts, too. Folks should also make sure they get psyllium husk powder for baking, not the psyllium husks.

(...and our search function had to be disabled a number of years ago. Use the google search box on the "advanced search".)

Since looking through the recipes on Diet Doctor I have found more uses for psyllium husk powder. I also found a number of references on German language sites. The product seems to be good in baking, as well as a binder in things like meatballs and meatloaf.
