Mouth bacteria can predict obesity

Interesting article about research on how a mouth swab might be able to predict obesity.

The less diverse bacteria in a mouth swab, the more likely you are to become obese

Can being ill change your gut bacteria for the better? I know a child who had food poisoning, which, of course is bad, but after that he lost extra weight he was carrying and now is a healthy weight and has been so for a few years.

Would a colonoscopy have the same effect???

Bet there is another step we don't understand. Will see if the article mentions how to inoculate the gut.

Ummm, all microbes need food. They grow and multiply when they have food. What grows can be controlled by what we eat, and how we brush our teeth ( brushing with baking soda gives me squuky clean teeth far longer than with toothpaste, for example. ) And the gut microbes reflect what we swallow, food and contaminants inclucing microbes on the foods, and the microbes in our mouth. Then how much can pass the stomach acids and move on down the track..... some microbes can only be introduced at birth apparently, as some people in dire straightss because they lack a very specific microbe ( cant remember name) requires a fecal transfer to save their life. It is a must have microbe.

How do we get our microbes right? WHat is right?

When watching a tv show last night the first step is to breastfeed babies. There is a "sugar" call HMO that we cannot digest, but there is a bifitia that can!! ANd is critical for health of a baby.

Hope this leads to more info.
