Welcome, Anne

You have found a great forum for support and information, if you enter from this index page https://forum.lowcarber.org. you can see all the active sub forms including those on health. At the top of the Atkins forum there is a summary of the induction program that many people follow. https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=236482. There are buddy Groups and challenges to join, or start a journal, whatever type of support works for you.

There is a well known low-carb doctor in West Virginia, though over near the Harpers Ferry area. Here’s a talk by him https://www.dietdoctor.com/i-dedica...-of-my-patients. He uses the same simple diet program that my doctor uses at Duke clinic. Based on Atkins induction but with measurements for the limited food so you don’t even need to count carbs.
https://www.dietdoctor.com/se/wp-co...starch_diet.pdf. The two week challenge and printable brochure ( can use as a shopping list) is a good start plan as well. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto

I have read success stories over the years for rheumatoid arthritis, well known ones are the chef https://www.dietdoctor.com/authors/seamus-mullen. and Michaela Peterson. https://www.dietdoctor.com/the-glob...ivore-lifestyle I hope Eating low carb will help you as well reducing the inflammation.

All the best

Hi! I was born and raised in WV until I moved to TN for college. I’m living in Japan now, but I’ll always be a WV girl. 😃

Wishing you courage as you start this part of your journey. You don’t have to do this alone. We’re here to help. My advice is to post any questions you might have. The members here are a wealth of information and support. Research the famous low carb and keto doctors/dietitians/professors/researchers and you’ll find their talks on YouTube pretty easily. When you understand WHY you need to eat this way, it’s easier to stick with the program. I promise!

Welcome, you will find lots of helpful folks here. Most important is to understand your chosen plan, have the book(s), ask for recipes if needed to adjust to this way of cooking, and my suggestion - do a daily food log. It really helps me to "see" what I am eating, where I can tweak what I am doing.

Best wishes to you.

Welcome Anne, We're happy to have you here. This is an amazing forum filled with helpful and non-judgmental people. We've ALL struggled with our weight and we understand where you're coming from.

In addition to the suggestions above, if you haven't already found your way there, I highly recommend the dietdoctor.com website. Lots of great recipes, inspirational weight-loss success stories, plus educational videos based on solid scientific research, that will help you understand why we get fat in the first place (it isn't due to some defect of character!) and why low carb diets like Atkins work to lose weight and help to heal a plethora of illnesses -like RA - that are often associated with excess weight.

You can join for free for 30 days to get access to everything on the website. They don't have any annoying pop up ads and they don't sell any diet books or packaged diet foods or anything else so, in my opinion, it's well worth the $10.
