Christmas Dinner

We have our family get together on Christmas Eve at my house. Our dinner will be low carb for the most part, and I am looking forward to dinner with our small family (we have 6 now). We seem to only get together for dinner a couple of times a year now.

Menu is:
salad
Steaks
roasted asparagus
baked potatoes
garlic bread

Chocolate pecan pie for dessert
Wine, tea, coffee

I'll be VERY happy with a glass of red wine, a salad, steak and roasted asparagus

The rest won't tempt me : :yum:

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays! Keep the faith!

We're cooking a turkey, cornbread dressing, fresh green beans, fresh Cauliflower with cheese, butter and cream, mashed potatoes DD making, sweet potatoes with crushed pineapple and pecans. Cheeses, olives, marinated artichoke hearts and spinach dip for appetizers.
I will stick to the meat, cheese and veggies.

IDK about dessert. They will bring something for themselves if they want it, I'm sure. They know I'm LC

Christmas Eve here will be a buffet table. The "boys", DH and my brother, will snack on the various sweets under the tree. On the table will be Swedish meatballs, pickled herring (for me; they don't like it; self pickled, so I know what's in it), Shrimp dip, various veggies for dipping, cheese & cold cuts plate; I'll be making a walnut bread from, I think, the Diet Doctor site. Egg nog, but I will make it low-ish carb. Christmas dinner just for the 3 of us + one guest. Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding (of which I will have one small portion), roast potatoes (for them), various LC veggies: roast radishes, mushrooms, carrots, winter salad with apples, walnuts and celeriac. Dessert will be, as always, ginger cheesecake, which doesn't lend itself to LC, but I will do what I can with it, and will only eat a small piece. My preferred dessert has always been another helping of the roast beef :-)
Sorry, I don't really belong here in the triple digits group. While I attempt to eat low carb pretty much exclusively, because I like the choices, I do loosen up somewhat for the holidays. For me that is an acceptable option. I understand that is not the case for everyone.

Verbena, well, I don't deny myself anything at special dinners, I just eat the stuff I am supposed to first, then usually I am not hungry or wanting the other stuff. Sweets have never been my problem.....its garlic bread, and crackers, and pizza, and pasta. If I fill up on low carb, I can usually skip the bad stuff!

my biggest problem at this time of year is home made chex mix.
It is addictive to me.....I can't stop eating it if it is around!

I love deviled eggs! I forgot about them. So good for low carb too.

I survived my dinner. The steaks were wonderful.....so tender this year. I had a filet. I also made a hot dip with artichoke hearts, parmesean cheese and mayo that I adore, and enjoyed that with a few triscuits.

I will be glad when the season is over. My stepson is visiting and staying with us and we are not in our regular system of eating :help:

I want to make it through New Year's without a gain! I am moving slow with a hurt knee and sore back. It took me forever to clean up from the dinner. I am ready to get back to normal!

My Rib roast came out Great. I oven roasted it low and slow after seasoning and letting it sit in fridge overnight. I cooked at 200 until the meat thermometer was where I wanted it for medium rare. It was on sale for $5 per pound so I just had to make one along with the turkey.

 Christmas dinner was great, and over with...... this year we grilled steaks and I had a wonderful tender filet mignon, with roasted asparagus and a little bit of a baked potato....and wine of course. this has become our traditional Christmas eve dinner.

No dessert, though I had the makings of strawberry shortcake for the rest of the family, but everyone was too full.

For appetizers I made that artichoke, parmesean dip and it was devoured. I love that stuff and it fits the low carb diet if you don't eat it on the crackers.

Anyway, another dinner celebration is done for the year! Now back to normal....

You pulled off a great meal.

If you need crackers and have just a few extra minutes, my kids love the almond meal based savory cracker. Strong enough for dipping, too.

over in the recipe section....

This is the best dip! If you make it like me, it's canned Artichoke hearts, 50/50 mayo and sour cream, a few splashes of Worcestershire sauce and lots of Parmesan cheese. It makes a great side salad and who needs crackers anyway!
When you think about it, to sell the carbs, they've been brainwashing the buying public to think that bread and crackers has to accompany everything and it does not.
