I clicked on the links and googled - but couldn't find the actual diet, other than generalized percentages of macros. I was mainly wondering what that particular study considered to be "healthy fat" on Nic's Keto diet - the heavily promoted unsaturated seed oils, or natural animal fats? |
While it's nice to see some serious clinical studies confirming the positive effects of low-carb and ketogenic diets, I am always left baffled why none of these studies were done two or three decades ago given the widespread anecdotal success stories of thousands upon thousands of people that reported these exact same benefits from their personal experiences.

If you haven't already, have a read of the likes of Good Calories Bad Calories by Gary Taubes and/or The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz. Stories abound of science being treated like a sort of fashion among scientists, where you'd be shunned for daring to openly subscribe to any dietary theory other than what was commonly believed at the time. |
Just last night I was telling DH how the competing theories of Rudkin and Keys was settled: not with carefully crafted experiments, but with academic politics and forceful bullying.
