Low carb specialists in the uk

I have recently started a low carb diet, my plan is to have very minimal processed carbs so flour and sugar is out.
The reason is that when recently pregnant I seas shocked to find out I had gestational diabetes- I wasnt overweight nor have a strong type 2 diabetic family history.

There is a lot of info on the web and the forums, which is very useful but overwhelming, I have read Gary Taubes books and I think there is a strong health argument for me to stay on a high fat, moderate protein low carb diet.
My problem is I don't think I have got the diet right especially with regards to fat, I don't want to find out what I am eating is a low fat low carb diet.

I would really like to see a trained dietician or professional who understands this type of diet, so I can get some help with my meal plans and understanding it properly.

I live in the Midlands but would be happy to travel

Forums such as this and the various low carb books/online info are really all you need to know. The rule of thumb with healthy eating is really avoid processed foods and only eat what you can hunt, gather, pick or pluck. The fat thing is controversial. You need fats for energy when low carbing and my rule is hard (at room temperature) fat is the best.

Sadly most trained dieticians are trained by the NHS and have to follow their rules professionally, altho I KNOW for a fact that there are a growing number who dont really believe in the low fat/low calorie mantra that they have to preach anymore.

Dr. John Briffa is in London. He's a big advocate of paleo/low carb eating. I don't know what his speciality is, but he might be able to refer you to someone.

I would use google and try the terms: "paleo or primal doctors in UK", "low carb doctors in UK" -- then even if you don't care to use them as a doctor, they might be able to provide referrals.

Some dieticians and holistic nutrition consultants offer their services through Skype, so the whole world may be available to you. But I second Dr. Briffa...maybe read his latest book, Escape the Diet Trap first, and his blog, to see if he might be a fit for your needs.
