Smart Scale Recommendations
I wasn’t quite sure where to post this, but I’m looking for smart scale recommendations. Something that can measure weight and body fat %, and track everything in an app. Ideally it would sync with the Apple health app.
I have a Fitbit Aria now and it’s okay but is 6 or 7 years old and honestly I don’t love it. I don’t use a Fitbit step tracker anymore so I don’t really have a reason to replace the scale with another Aria. Suggestions? What scale do you have and like? |
I have a weight guru scale by Greater Goods. I like it a lot and their customer service is great. Easy to set up and the app works fine.

I have a Renpho - It is reliable and accurate and the price point was great too

I just have a dumb scale - weight only. But it seems very accurate and keeps track of your last five readings. In fact it will keep track of weight for up to five people. Each person has their own button to push when they get on the scale.
Though I'm not sure I totally like that. My 10-year-old grandson figured it out and pushed MY button which then shows my last weight reading. That's not a number I really wanted him to know! |
My scale is old fashioned. It weighs me every time I step on it.
Really, that's all I ask of a scale If I want to know about my fat mass, I have another useful tool - a tape measure If I want to know how I look, I look in the mirror I'm just old fashioned. |
Thanks for the suggestions! I got my scale to work again and so it looks like I can avoid buying another for the time being.
Merpig, that is a combination of funny and horrifying! :) |
I got this one (weight only) - amazon orders says July 2013. I think I changed the battery once.

They're all pretty bad when it comes to bodyfat measurements, more of a way to track the trend than the real number. Especially if it's only going through the feet. I have a Withings but only because I also have a Withings smart watch and they both connect and feed data to my cronometer acct. Omron makes a good one that also has handles so you're getting the feet and hands which makes it more accurate. InBody also has one, they're pretty big into commercial stuff, most of the scales the trainers use at gyms are made by them. Accurate (for a BIA scale) but still a BIA scale. Omron is probably your best bet if you want it as accurate as you can, keep in mind with any of them, first thing in the morning, in a near dehydrated state gives the best results. If your hands or feet have dry skin, if you just moisturized etc you'll thrown the results. it's Withings app will also connect to apple health, so it can get in there that way, Omron won't but you could just add it. If you're tracking with a FirBit and not an Apple Watch I'd disable the connection to Apple health. Most tracker come with far better apps.

I've always wondered what the deal is with women being ashamed of their weight. The scale number doesn't change how you look, and how you look isn't hidden from anyone. I'm fascinated by this. It's not like if your number is higher, you suddenly look fatter, or if it's lower, you'll suddenly look thinner. I've never understood it. |

People are brainwashed to not be able to tell the difference between scale weight and body fat. I'm a dude, but a friend of mine who is very athletic and muscular (in an attractive way, not the gross way) weights almost 150lbs, flat stomach, toned, what I think most would say is the kind of body most working out would want to achieve. She's also a personal trainer. Whenever her clients come and and can't get scale weight not mattering out of their head she weighs them and then hops on the scale herself, she says EVERY time, that's where that mindset ends! People just need to see it for themselves. |
