Today Show: How Doctor lost 125 pounds with IF

At one point, Dr. Kevin Gendreau weighed 300 pounds, turning to food to cope with stress. But when his sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Gendreau realized that when it came to health, “he had a choice in the matter and she did not.” Gendreau decided to start cutting out processed carbohydrates and counting his calories, but soon plateaued. That’s when he decided to try out intermittent fasting – and it made all the difference. Gendreau is joined by Jacob Anselmo, who also lost over 100 pounds through intermittent fasting. This story has been around for the past month, and was picked up by The Today Show. Not super low carb, but all real foods, no refined processed foods, no mention of exercise. It was adding IF (still an eight hour eating window) that took him to goal. 10+ minute segment.

He started out on a low carb, whole food diet and when his weight loss hit a plateau, Dr. Jason Fung‘s book The Obesity Code gave him the knowledge he needed to implement intermittent fasting, too. He has now lost 125 lbs and has begun recommending his routine to his diabetic and pre-diabetic patients. He reported to People Magazine that once he had made the “black-and-white decision to stop being unhealthy, everything else just fell into place”.

Yeah, broke a stall and lost a stone when I did one-meal-a-day for one Winter. It works, but the first 9 days were tough for me, then it got easy.

I find it getting easier and easier as I raise my overall health level. Dr. Fung also has a great podcast, the Obesity Code Podcast: Lessons and Stories from the Intensive Dietary Management Program that is full of success stories and great tips.

"Obesity Cure" was on cover of Woman's World 7/30/18. A two page spread with "menus" (why? just don't eat is too complicated? ) but a nice plug for the book Obesity Code

I liked this piece, not only because it was well produced and should have a large audience, but this guy is a doctor himself and advising his patients, even those with diabetes, to eat low carb and fast. Earlier this year, Megan had the woman from "Keto Karma", a great success story but then show inserted a NBC registered dietitian to give the downsides to a ketogenic diet. Producers didn't do that with a doctor :)

so true....He reported to People Magazine that once he had made the “black-and-white decision to stop being unhealthy, everything else just fell into place”.

I loved his statement.

I remember that ah-ha moment reading DANDR. It is a black and white decision. For me, I stopped baking. An avid baker that fed the monster on a nearly daily basis--stopped cold turkey.
