Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster

I am now getting this error code daily. Not on every thread, but on certain ones again and again and again:

I click "respond" add my reply, click submit and this message pops up:

Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster

I've notified the webmaster a couple of times and got neither a response nor a cure.

It's frustrating.

Hi Bob. Can you copy/paste the link in the address bar the next time it happens? I'm guessing you're clicking on a post that we removed (spam, etc).

Bob-a-rama Fri, Jan-17-20 13:00

Sounds like a good idea.

Should I post it here or include in a letter to the webmaster?

Which is better for you all?

While waiting for your response I got the message responding to this thread:

http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=483468

and the page that it directed me to was:

https://forum.lowcarber.org/newreply.php

BTW, Windows 10 latest update, Firefox browser latest update.

Bob, are you clicking the button at the top (and bottom) of the thread page in order to open the reply message box?? Where is this "respond" link located on the page? I suppose this is where a screenshot would be handy, showing not the invalid error message, but the page with the "respond" link or button that you're clicking. Please include the url address at the top in the screenshot

edit to add: I get that https://forum.lowcarber.org/newreply.php url when I preview my reply before submitting. However, there's no "respond" button or link, just "Submit Reply" and "Preview Post".

Either Post Reply (sorry for calling it respond) or the quick reply.

Both have done it to me. Not on every thread but at least once a day (today is an exception, I can't stay here long).

Here we go again:

Tried the quick reply to this thread:
http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=483481

and got:
Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster

I didn't notify the webmaster as it seems to do no good

I tried again, this time with the "post reply" button and it worked.

Sometimes neither method works, today one out of two did.

I notice both of the thread links you've copied/pasted here are http://. They should be https:// and there should be a secured padlock icon to the left on the address bar.

Are you accessing the threads directly from the forum, or from a bookmark or other external link such as a subscription notification? I've noted that thread links in subscription emails show http: but in my browser (Chrome) they automatically convert to the secured https:// format when clicked.

I'm wondering if the problem might be due to Firefox not automatically converting to the secured https: format. Try clicking the http: links in the quotes above. Is the newly opened page converted automatically to https:? If not, if the page starts with http: and shows the unsecured icon .. that may be the cause of the problem.

Can you switch to another browser? That may be the easiest "fix" for this issue

Good observation.

Today Firefox seems to be converting to https

If a page fails to load again, I'll try inserting the "s" and let you know if that solves the problem.

Thanks.

And again to this thread:

https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=483451

The S is there.

I tried both quick replay and post reply, neither one worked.

I few other threads I responded to did work though.

Any more ideas?

It's a bit frustrating to type out a well thought response, proofread it for typos, click and watch it disappear.

Again on this thread. Please have the webmaster fix this frustrating problem.

Thanks

And again with

https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthr...t=483234&page=3

It's now a daily occurrence. The webmaster doesn't.

DOESN'T ANYBODY CARE?

Bob, just for you, I switched back from Chrome to Firefox when using this forum to try to recreate this problem, and it's not happening. I haven't gotten this message once, even test-replying to the threads you've linked. No one else has chimed in on this thread complaining about the same problem. I really think it's on your end somehow.

Bob-a-rama Tue, Jan-28-20 08:19

Any suggestions on how I can investigate that?

It doesn't happen on any other sites, and a couple I visit also use vBulletin.
