Gittleman on sugar

Not a low-carb plan per se, but using both low-carb principles and effects.

Get the Sugar Out : 501 Simple Ways to Cut the
Sugar in Any Diet
by Ann Louise Gittleman, 1996.

Gittleman first details the various health problems with eating a high-sugar diet (agreeing with many low-carb principles though she does not detail the role of insulin as do other authors.), then provides practical methods of eliminating sugar from various sources. She also tells some fascinating tales of sugar-hiding (did you know there is sugar in your iodized salt?) Some references are given as endnotes.

As in her other books on menopause, women's health, salt, flax oil, Gittleman's emphasis is on practicality, providing simple real-world solutions for typically busy people. The book is quite easy to read, and I imagine it as most useful for those of us trying to convert friends and relatives who are not ready to try full-fledged LC. Following these recommendation would get the worst of the carb-poisons out of their lives and improve their health quite a bit.

For low-carbers, there are a number of references and recipes that are inappropriate weight-loss phases of LC.
