Is Oprah really a good weightloss expert?

I saw something on TV that was talking about Oprah, her weight loss and bread.
It made me wonder, is she really a good example of weight loss or is she leading people astray in thinking they can continue eating all of the things that made them fat in the first place?

Then I began wondering what her numbers are, is she diabetic, is her blood pressure high, is she on meds for all for all of that?

Then I thought about us here on the forum, with our LC plans that has no multimillion add campaign and no big star doing TV commercials to promote our WOE. We have guided ourselves in this direction because we are more educated on what will really work in the long run for our weight loss but also our health. Most of us have read multiple books and articles about LC.

I think the group meetings of WW do provide some sense of support for a lot of people but every time I've checked, WW still will not admit that LC is the only way to really loose weight for a change of life and improve all of our numbers at the same time so that we don't become victims of the pharmaceutical industry.

I just wonder if Oprah isn't doing real damage to the public health by pushing a weight loss plan that is not only not sustainable in the long run but actually will make people stay sick when there is a method that works.

What do you think?

I remember that bread comment. A while back she said she has hypothyroidism. I'm not sure how much she would want to blab about diabetes or hb.

She strikes me as a January dieter because her weight has fluctuated so much.

Oh now there is a new WW commercial for the new year where she says we can go out to eat and eat anything we want!

And lose weight if we buy her special gimmick?

I don't think Weight Watchers is all that bad. I follow the youtube channel of a woman who started at over 300 pounds and who used to eat the worst stuff you can imagine. Her grocery hauls used to contain chips, cake mix, cases of sugary soda, frozen pizza, etc. After a year on Weight Watchers she has lost 59 pounds and her diet is much better. She now eats a lot more whole foods, fresh fruits and vegetables. And she still likes to eat out, but counts her smart points and feels like she can still have what she wants while losing weight.

I agree different diets work for different problems. I think it depends on why you gained the weight in the first place. I have a carefree friend with a great metabolism that loses and gains 75lbs over and over again. She can lose on any diet and usually the goal is to be thin again before she goes on a trip to see family. She eats like crazy on vacation and then the diets over for a while.

Always keep in mind celebrities are paid well for commercials, plus she has financial interest in the company. All these years and she continues to be a yoyo dieter I would not think she is a good weight loss example. One thing I'll say for her, she's persistant, lol.

I hope she has found her niche. She, like so many of us, has really struggled.

She seems the happiest and most relaxed than I've ever seen her.

No, I don't think she is BUT she is human and, like many of us, struggles.
Hers is front page though, which makes her a pretty tough lady, IMO :)

I don't think she is anymore. To my eye, she has been the same approximate weight for years, with some extra weight loss following WW. No more huge fluctuations anyway. I think she's made peace with not being 110 lbs or whatever she was at the time of her greatest loss.

haha. NO.

She can't keep her weight in check. Its all about MONEY for her.

Has Oprah ever tried low carb?

bkloots Wed, May-30-18 16:40

Just stopping by. I admire Oprah. I appreciate her human values. Her nutritional advice? Not so much. Like most of us here, she struggles. Her appearance at the recent royal wedding suggests that she has made peace for now with herself at a larger size.

Yes, Oprah has done low-carb, once upon a time. I can't remember the details. As I understand it, Weight Watchers has low-carb options.
