Where are you Aussies at ?

Where are you guys hanging out online!

You are not posting in this sub-forum that's for sure!

It's always been kinda dead in this area.

Rosebud Thu, Apr-20-06 01:42

G'day Dave. I'm still here. :)

I think (and hope) that our Aussie members are happily joining in other parts of the board, and are spending less time wondering about local products. Who knows?

Meanwhile, congratulations on the fabulous way you are losing!!!! 113 pounds is nothing short of magnificant!

Roz

LC_Dave Thu, Apr-20-06 19:51

Thanks Roz,

You've probably seen me around here for the last 4 years or so.
I only really committed to my plan last July.

Now I'm a total believer!

kathyhegg Fri, Apr-21-06 05:00

I check in here every night, but no one is ever here. I was hanging in Meat and Eggs, but I wasn't losing on it. So now Dr B is the way for me.

If you are doing atkins, the advice is always the same.

Buy the book, read the book and follow the book.

Nobody is doing Atkins, if they don't do this.

It's a bit like saying you are on Weight Wathcers but you have never been to a meeting. The book is very important.

Try to eat whole foods all the time.
Watch your intake of cheese - follow the book for the limit.
Don't eat the Atkins brand products or anything with a net carb count if you want to loose weight. They are fine on maintenance.

Good Luck!

fitbyfifty Mon, Apr-24-06 03:46

Thanks for the response Dave. I was going through a bit of a down patch but I decided that I wasn't following the Low Carb Made Easy plan properly so it would make sense to commit to that and see what happens.

I also went for a run and ditched the coke zero and it's amazing how I'm already feeling more positive.

when you say don't eat anything with a net carb count does that mean veggies too?

Great results Dave. I think you will find the fad status of Atkins is on the decline and it is now regarded as old hat. Not so much negative media comment these days as it has become a tad boring to the press as a lot have moved on to the next diet revolution. The books are being discounted and my local health food shop recently had an advert in it's window allong the lines of 50% to 75% off all Atkins products. You also hear a lot more stories of converts saying it does not work long term. It's great it is working so well for you as it does for many others. Low carb and plenty of walking works for me.

hi LC Dave, i've just found this Aussie site. I'm doing Atkins and am now on day10. so far i have lost 3 kg's and will weight myself a again Satdy. It's good to have other aussies on this site to confer with regarding LC and food sourcing. I will make sure to check here more often. I have posted my first post to day. :)

Hi, I'm new and glad I found the Aussie section, I haven't finished reading yet but hope to find out more! Dave you are an inspiration!!
What did you mean Dave, by don't use anything with 'net carbs'..do you mean don't use net carbs but instead use the actual carb count???

abbey Sun, Oct-15-06 04:53

Janie Welcome to the forum! I think what Dave meant was no pre made products with sugar alcohols and fancy subtractions in the adding of carbs with the little labels on the front saying "ONLY 4NET CARBS" when it's really full of rubbish

Janine2203 Sun, Oct-15-06 18:34

oh thanks for that! and I'll be hanging out in this Aussie section frequently, I am loaded with questions!!!

I don't think Atkins is dying in popularity, Ijust completed that survey thing and Atkins people were in a large percentage compared to all the other low carb plans.

Hi to all the ozzie lcers. Where do you all live I am in north Queensland...yep hot hot hot. I have just started again today after losing a fair bit a few years ago but due to a bad fall and diabetes I fell off the lc wagon and put on heaps of weight. Now it is a matter of do or die cause if I don't shift this weight I will die. Glad to find a place where we can talk about lcing in Australia cause I haven't even heard of some of the stuff they talk about lol.
Anyway just wanted to say hi and hope to catch up with everyone soon,
cheers
wendy

Rosebud Mon, Jan-08-07 19:39

Hi Wendy,

Good to see you starting again. You CAN do this.

Cheers, matey.

Hi Dave, I'm still around too! Hanging out a bit in the Journals and Exercise sections of this site. I come here to check in and see if anyone has posted or if I want to ask something location-specific.

I agree Janine, I don't think the lc-ers are dying off, I just think the fad-ers have moved onto the next fad. The proper lc-ers are still around but because they eat grocery/whole foods, the buying power is not recognised.

khesan, good to see you here and doing something about your health issues. Looking forward to checking in with you :)

Hi there!
Does anybody knows a Lowcarb store arround Townsville area?
I started Kimkins 8 days ago and ketostiks shows a deep purple colour, very close to the highest mark and I am a little bit concerned. I am thinking to give up am go back on Atkins.
What do you, guys, reckon? Could be dangerous a high level of ketones? Curently I am eating under 15g of carbs and under 500cal dayly.
Any advice will be highly appreciated.
C us latter.

Janine2203 Tue, Feb-06-07 03:24

Hi, I'm no expert but I'd say that under 500 calories was way too low and you'll probably end up in 'starvation mode' and stall on weight loss.

Gilly07 Sun, May-06-07 19:30

Hi,

I live at Ettalong beach on the Central Coast, nice to know i have got lots of Aussie buddies here. I have only been here a year but plan on going for citizenship as soon as we can, that will be April 2008.
Doing the Atkins to try and get rid of the 60lbs of lard i have put on in the last 20 years!!
Bring on the butter :yum:

bsheets Mon, May-07-07 03:35

I agree with Janine, I wouldn't go as low as 500cals. Most people round here recommend 2000cals per day if going low carb.

Your body is a temple, treat it well :)

If you've put on weight over several years, allowing several years to lose it is the way to go - mentally too. Very important :)

Hey Gilly, how long you been lc'ing?

Gilly07 Mon, May-07-07 17:31

Hi,
I'm here

I have just joined! I am on the Central Coast in NSW Australia about an hours drive from Sydney, only over the road from the beach so no excuses for not walking!
Please feel free to visit my journal

queenslander here

Hi Dave,

I am new to this forum, I have crohns disease, and I have been reading the Bokk Life without Bread, and feel that a low carbohydrate diet is worth trying........

Cheers,

starwoman :yum:

bsheets Sat, Jul-21-07 22:12

Hi Starwoman, with you on that one! If we don't get any responses to our request for a weekly plan, maybe we could work together to produce our own :D

e

EmmaB Sat, Jul-21-07 23:15

Hey starwoman, welcome to the forum! Low carb is definitely worth trying, there are quite a few people here with crohns plus others (like me) who don't have crohns but have found that our bodies are much much happier grain free anyway.

Just a couple of things: you might want to post a hello message in the main Introductions forum, you'll get lots of replies there. It's a bit quiet down here in the Aussie forum since we're all busy posting in other forums and usually only stop in here if we have a question about buying certain foods in Oz.

Also, if you do plan to post in the main forums, you might want to convert your weight to pounds to avoid confusing the Americans who will probably freak out and say stupid things, figuring that you only weight 65 pounds.

I use this conversion site a lot for weights and also for measurements for recipes and kilojoules to calories.

65 kgs = 143 pounds
68 kgs = 150 pounds

Best of luck with low carbing, it should help you a lot!

starwoman Sun, Jul-22-07 02:15

Hi Dave,

Me, myself and I am living in queensland behind the gold coast.

cheers,

starwoman :yum:

starwoman Mon, Jul-23-07 05:10

I am not here to lose weight

I am here becasue I have crohns disease and apparently carbohydrates feed the bad bacteria that cause crohns, however I do miss my bread.

Cheers,

starwoman
