When you reach goal in Atkins, could you not switch over to Sugar Busters and continue this plan as a way of eating for life? Has anyone done this/

Hi Marsha!
I switched from Atkins to Sugar Busters. I havn't reached my goal yet and my progress is slower now but I feel much better about including whole grains and fruit. This is a very very good maintenance plan for sure.

It was interesting tonight to see a segment on the 6:00 news that reported that people who eat a considerable amount of starchy foods like potatoes and white bread have a 50% greater risk of getting pancreatic cancer because these foods abnormally raise insulin levels. They also claimed that the "couch potato" lifestyle is now a greater risk to health than smoking!

Give me whole grains, veggies, fruit, olive oil and lean meats and I can live on this quite nicely.

Oh, and I musn't forget the chocolate and red wine :)
All in moderation of course.

Quincy.

WOW! A 50% greater risk of pancreatic cancer??? That's pretty significant! That sure makes those high starch foods look less appetizing.

Marsha: I have been on both PPP and CALP and find SugarBusters the easiest of all Plans to do. Not much measuring or leeping track of anything and the variety of foods is great. I can certainly see it as a Lifestyle Plan.

I am trying keep my starchy carb servings to 2-3 per day while in weight loss mode. But I have found that even on the occasions that I exceed that I don't gain just maintain. I think SB would be great for maintenance.

Yup, they did say a 50% greater risk of pancreatic cancer. I am sure that doesn't mean that they have a 50% chance of getting this type of cancer, just that, of the relatively low number of people who actually get pancreatic cancer chances are likely that they had a diet of starchy over-refined foods.
Hmmm, not sure that makes any more sense  but anyway, there's another good reason to stay away from the illegal foods!

That stone ground whole grain bread is tasting better all the time. :)
