hi Nadia,

Please read our Lowcarbing Basics article here, http://www.lowcarb.ca/tips.html ... also check the other information there too, especially Frequently Asked Questions and Jazz up Your Induction by Karen Barnaby. You'll find links to official lowcarb websites, information about the different programs, books and resources. Karen's induction menu ideas are wonderful, creative lowcarb ways to keep food boredom at bay...

Look forward to hearing from you again soon, as you start out on your lowcarb journey! .. :) .. p.s. - you might be able to find a copy of one or more of the popular program books at your public library.

Take care, and best of luck to you
Doreen

Hi Nadia,

In a nutshell, low-carb diets (there a few varieties of them) consist of high protein foods (fish, meat, poultry, cheese), and low-carbohydrates, low-glycemic foods such as green vegetables. Most low-carb diets let you select whatever variety of those items suits your taste as long as the total carbs (in grams) of your daily intake does not excede a certain limit. What are the limits? It depends on the diet, some state a certain limit for the beginning week or two (some call it induction, some call it phase one), and a continuing phase.

Click on the "Books" link on top of this page to see a variety of references to low-carb diets such as "Atkins", "Protein Power" and others.

My last blood test showed my triglycerides to be 349 up from 279, 7 month ago and I'm only 32 yrs old. Doctor put me on Lopid and wants me to eat less carbs and sweets. Plus I need to start exercising. High triglycerides do run on my dad's side of the family.

This has giving me place on where to start on changing my diet.
