I am new to the forum but look forward to learning to control my eating and drop some of my weight. My wife is starting low carb also but she has diabetes, so we will need to watch her diet with this in consideration.

We have in the past tried the low carb diet and lost quite a bit of weight. The down side is we just couldn't stay away from the sweets and bread. Thanks for having us.

Jim

Welcome Big Jim!
There is something of a Low Carb revolution going on in Tennessee :)

Check out all of Dr. Ken Berry's YouTube videos (he's in Camden, more central)
https://www.youtube.com/kendberrymd and his book...you might enjoy that one.
http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=480858 (his take down of ADA guidelines)

and Butter Bob Briggs http://www.buttermakesyourpantsfalloff.com/category/getstarted/

There is an entire sub-forum on diabetes: http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=45

If your wife needs medical supervision reducing medications, then Dr. Berry or Dr. Eric Westman in Durham NC can help too.

Also, quite a few low carb Southern recipe cooks have grown out of the Durham local support group, Kristie is one http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=470795

All the best,

I love the “Cooking Keto with Kristie” YouTube channel. She also has 2 cook books out and a 3rd one scheduled out about Christmas. Her recipes are regular foods and her low carb desserts are divine. She is a southern girl and even has a recipe for biscuits and gravy. You won’t have to miss sweets whenever you feel you’re ready to add them back into your WOE. Best of luck to you and your wife on your weight-loss journey.

Welcome, BigJim! I look forward to hearing your saga. Maybe you'll start a journal?

Even though you're not a low carb newbie, you might find the threads in the "Best Of" subforum informative. Lots of good reading there.

Best wishes.
