Hello everyone,
I am new to low carbing. I haven't started a plan yet but leaning towards atkins.
I am 49 years old and newly type 2 diabetic menopausal on hormone therapy. I am trying to lose about 35 pounds and maintain a healthy weight. I am also taking prednisone 7mg daily because of a kidney transplant. That is what I feel makes my weight journey difficult. Any advice is appreciated. The diabetes and extra weight is not good for the health of my transplanted kidney. That is my greatest motivation right now. Thanks in advance for your support and advice. :help:

Hi. I was in a similar boat at your age (actually didn't find out about kidney problems til older.)

Just want to share that at meno and beyond, calories really counted for me. No matter how low the carbs were, at 1400+ I did. not. lose.

YMMV. In the meantime get an Atkins book and read it cover to cover - I used the Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, but the original '72 book is stricter and many prefer that. The '72 one is Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution. They are inexpensive on Amazon or can be found in just about any used book store.

Also, a member posted this years ago - it's enlightening:

Calories According to Atkins (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showpost.php?p=8407879&postcount=249)

Good luck! And don't forget that exercise is really good for kidneys.
