Hi all, I am Nikki, I live in Naples, Italy the world capital of pizza, pasta and gelato... Since moving here I have steadily packed on the pounds until I could hardly squeeze into anything in my wardrobe. We live 500 meters from the Mediterranean and I love the beach. I want to feel and look fit and firm and not like a beached whale! I started this WOE on June 2nd. I didn't have a scale at first but know that I weighed AT LEAST 225 lbs. By the time I bought the scale (A few days into week 2) I weighed 219.8 and the truth is the scale has been going down and up to that figure since then. I completed a CLEAN two week induction and began exercising 30 mins daily on the 2nd week. I have lost over 11 inches and everyone is commenting on noticing a difference even though they don't know I have changed my WOE. I can tell everyone honestly I have cut out all starchy foods due to candida and they accept this and support it. If I were to just say I were on a diet they (Italians) would pressure me constantly to eat pasta, pizza and pastries. So far so good, even though I am a bit discouraged the scale is STILL at 219 in my fourth week even though I am tracking everything and doing everything by the book (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution). I look forward to support and help for the journey.

Welcome Nicki
No or little loss of scale weight is common in week 3 and 4, here is the explanation http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=365499&page=1&pp=15. You have lost inches and that's what matters.
So if you are following all the rules of DANDR (as your book is shortened), summarized right here: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=236482
Then focus on how your clothes fit and the other benefits of eating LC. Our stats are close, and after the initial water loss, my loss was about 1 pound of fat a week. Also you can stay on induction until goal if you want. All the best,

Thanks so much, yes I read that thread earlier this morning about why the scale lies and it was SO good and helpful. I followed a 100% clean induction for two weeks, then added 5 nc from veggies the third week. This week I am going to re-introduce 3 servings of greek yogurt. I need variety or I will bust so I do not see myself as a long term inductioner. I am so thankful for all the activity here and opportunity to learn and engage!

Welcome, Nikki. Sounds like you've made a commitment to an excellent plan. This site--and especially our most resourceful Janet--will guide you to plenty of information as you learn the particulars for you.

You might consider starting a journal. A place to have visitors, but most of all, to keep track of your choices, feelings, and progress over time, just for your own reference.

Naples? Not a bad place to hang out, even if you're dodging pasts for now.

Best wishes.
