I have been dieting on and off for most of my adult life and I find myself today at my heaviest! I have planter faciatis in both feet and a heel spur in my right foot. I am in pain most of the day, most recently my knee has good s started hurting too. I know that this extra weight is a huge factor.
Food has always been a reward for me for as long as I remember, there are few things that I enjoy as much. I need to change my habits and the way I think about food. I have done low carb in the past and had success so I thought that low carb would be a good place to start.
I need to stay focused and motivated because I can't live with this pain any longer. I hope this forum can give me that extra push!!

Hi Tina and welcome. Your health problems definitely sound like a reason to re-commit to a low carb lifestyle. Maybe a good way to shore up your strength and courage is by reading a couple books on the low carb lifestyle. Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution or any of his books. If you click on "home" at the top of the page, it will bring you to a new page where you can click on Low Carb Diet Books.

Another thing you could do is start a journal on here and record what you're eating every day as a way to stay true to your will.
Sometimes posters will pop in to see how you're doing or offer encouragement or advice.

Good luck. You can do this if you want.

Welcome Tina
Not having any pain is a reason many of us remain low carb forever. Amazingly, it is not just your weight that causes the pain, but inflammation in your joints, including the ligaments in plantar fasciitis and where the heel spur is. I started LC to lose weight but only three weeks into the diet, I realized how much better my knees felt (arthritis diagnosed by an MRI). It was only then after so much less pain, including my feet, and even bunions, that I read more about inflammation. Most of those conditions are treated with anti-inflammatory drugs...just eat an anti-inflammatory diet instead  I am 65 this week and have been completely pain-free for five years. Here is a sample of other testimonials on a LC weight loss registry: http://www.awlr.org/testimonials.html#Arthritis

It would be helpful to read a low carb book to understand how diet can reduce inflammation...a good one is the Wheat Belly Total Health book, but just search arthritis or joint pain on his blog and you will find enough information. http://www.wheatbellyblog.com Like his program, suggest you eat completely grain and sugar free diet. Another good book is Why We Get Fat And a website is http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf

And there is some very practical advice in this thread how to go about Changing Habits. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=468195

All the best,
