I have been away from low carb a couple years, buying a house, getting fat, and slowly dying inside because of it. And recently planning a wedding for May 2016 and a honeymoon in Mexico.

It's time to get healthy again and not race down the same path as my mom did, with diabetes, blindness, renal failure, and every other diabetic complication you can name. (I am not diabetic, YET!)

I lost almost 60 lbs in 2012/2013 but got lazy, and I'm sure many of you know the story, so I won't bore you! But for health reasons I need to get back in line, and the side effect of weight loss will be awesome!

I belong to another low carb forum, but find the moderation of almost everything to be ridiculous. You cannot have a conversation about products or social media without receiving an email the next day to say it has been edited. So, I am searching for a new low carb home.

I have created a thread in the "Canada" area, and hope all the Canadian low-carbers can come by and say hi!

Welcome Avy

This time from beautiful Vancouver Island! and we explored around Naimono also after crossing on the Horseshoe Bay ferry...wow, all so so beautiful. I do a Yin Yoga video just so I can chill out looking at the BC coastline. Do you know of this teacher in Victoria? https://youtu.be/vpdHMyvkJxw Her video may calm the wedding jitters :)

Even though you haven't been diagnosed yet, you might benefit from also reading some threads in the Diabetes sub-forum. Many great resources there. http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=45
Check out Dr Hallberg's new TEDTalk, http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=468458
And the tons of LC resources within the new blog, LowCarbRN. You might relate to her own story. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=466291

Read the rules for this forum, no promotion of products or links with Amazon affiliate codes etc, but if just discussing a product in general it is usually not an issue. There are many LC Facebook support groups, but I only link to ones that are managed by doctors, not ones that would compete with a forum. Not a fan of FB at all, but some doctors use it extensively, like Dr William Davis.

Hope this helps, all the best wishes on the upcoming wedding!

HI Janet,

Thank you! diabetes and I are old friends. My mom had every complication, medication, etc. imaginable, and was the epitome of what not to do. I will check out your links though, I always like a new tedtalk!

I did read the forum rules, and say no advertising, but nothing else specific. For instance, the face you mentioned Facebook would have gotten you a warning and your post deleted on the other forum. (I know from experience!) We were discussing what we did on the weekend, and I bought new Clinique makeup... that was censored lol. It's just silly!

I love the island too, and the BC coastline. Oceans, mountains and everything in between at your fingertips, and it's freaking breathtaking. :)

Hello and welcome,

I am new to the board too. I used to love going to Vancouver Island. I grew up in Oregon and we used to visit there. I live in Llandudno, North Wales now which is a resort by the sea. I have been here three months. It has little mountains and the Irish sea and is the gateway to Snowdonia. We can see the cable cars going up the Orme from our living room window of our flat (apartment).

There is loads of support on this forum. I think after reading around they are the friendliest forum and the most helpful.

All the best.
