Hi Everyone, I have just been browzing through the forums on here and it looks like I have finally found the place I have been frantically searching for for the last 4 weeks!!!
I started Low carbing on the 2nd of December after attending a conference on it and since then I have been reading everything and anything I can get my hands on to get the "right"information for my (and hubby's) situation.
We are trying to stay on the high fat, med-low protein, less than 30grams carbs version of keto but are worried about loss of muscle.
We are both 52 and I have competed in figure competitions (5 so far)since I lost 30kgs of fat when I was 48, but since I have dione these comps I have struggled more and more to keep my bodyfat down and now that I am getting ready for my next comp I find that it is almost impossible to reduce bodyfat, so I am hoping that this way of eating is my saviour.
We have previously both done the CKD version which worked wonderfully for my hubby but just made me fat :help:
although we have now been sticking to very low carbs for nearly 4 weeks we are both struggling to get into a high reading for blood ketosis (we bought a blood monitor) the highest so far has been 0.9 for me and 0.6 for my hubby both these readings were at night after dinner which included a fair amount of coconut oil which (from what i have read elsewhere) accounted for the higher reading. I know my problem is that I am finding it hard to avoid snacking between meals (arghhh nuts & cheese!!) as I have spent the last 4 years eating 6-7 times a day, I am also finding it very difficult to listen to my body and know when it is "full" this seems to be from being on a very low calorie diet for so long, it's almost like I have lost the ability to hear what my body wants. It's like my body is saying.. "nuts & cheese!! quick eat them before they are taken away again!!"
We are both using the keto way of eating to lose bodyfat but wish to keep or gain as much muscle as we can while on it.
Any info would be humungously appreciated and I am now off to dig through this forum for all the info I can find :)

Hi, try reading Marks daily apple, he builds & gives great advice!
I weight train & eat lots of protein & fat & remain in ketosis with very low carbs. I eat 5-6 times a day, but my meals are smaller than when I ate 3 times a day & didn't weight train. I am still losing body fat while gaining muscle so it can be done.
I'm quite new to building (3 months) but not to fitness. I am aiming to enter a novice competition later this year.
Good luck on your journey :)
