So I've been a bit under the weather this week recovering from a nasy little Noro-virus so yesterday I spent the afternoon in bed and picked up my copy of DANDR-1992.
If it isn't any clearer than this, here is Dr. Atkins stance on SAs
"Sweeteners such as sorbitol, mannitol, and other hexitols are not allowed, nor are any natural sweeteners ending in the letters -ose, such as maltose, fructose, etc." p. 98
...and now NANY advocates up to 2 servings a day. I could just smack em'
