HI

Did anyone watch this Channel 4 Programme this evening, about diabetes? I started to but it was a bit, well, medically graphic for my stomach at dinner time so recorded it, hope to watch it tomorrow.

I would be interested in discussing it especially as my dad has just been dignosed with type 2 diabetes........

I am an ex-pat living in Utah now, so feel strong links with back home....
The book that you should buy is Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. read it cover to cover and then give it to your dad. I have bought several copies of this book for my old buddies over in the UK and it has helped them a lot.
Here is his web site

It looks as though the UK is as badly supported in diabetes education as is the US. I followed the links for the Channel 4 web site on diabetes and found the usual......... Base your meals on carbohydrates and starch *(do not)* "Cholesterol and saturated fats should be restricted because people with diabetes are at a higher risk of heart attack" *(do not)*, and the other site was pushing insulin pumps at $3000 a time...follow the money.
So the only way forward is self help and to repeat what I mentioned in my previous reply read Bernstein, he has it right.

The UK is only just catching up with the US on admitting that type 2 is being found in younger and younger people. Like you say they are also lacking in education.

I have recorded the program to watch later...there is a second part tonight on teenagers as well.

If we keep pushing maybe they will listen !
