Hi everyone. I am new to the site and will be starting my diet on Monday. I am easing into it over the next few days. I did do it before and had great results but got sick, came off, and gained the weight I loss and more back. I doubt I will become so sick that I have to stop like before. I had a rare skin condition that took forever to diagnose and of course they thought it was a reaction to the tons of fish I was eating. It turned out to be rosea something....which was basically just a coincidence but by the time they figured it out, the carbs were tasting sooo good and I said the heck with it. 4 years later I am here ready to say, I surrender. I am resistant so I have to eat almost no carbs to get to burning carbs and be in ketosis. But I have my treadmill, punching bag and stand, and weight bench ready to help me out.

Well, guess I have done enough rambling on but I am so excited to finally do it and all that I couldn't help it! Well take care and best wishes!!!

Welcome Gina!!!

You sound like you know what you are doing and you are ready to go!! Good to plan a day and get your house ready for it. Oh, and of course the first couple weeks are hard, induction flu they call it sometimes. This support group is awesome. The people here are non-judging and really great for moral support.

On a side note, the skin condition isn't Rosacea, is it? I have that, so I was wondering. It's a pretty mild case but I can tell. Flare ups happen in cold wind so of course I live in Chicago. LOL. Born and raised so I wear scarves and have DH drop me off at all doors in the winter. He should be a gentleman anyway. LOL.

Well I think once you have the first couple of weeks over with, it will be smooth sailing. I know you have done this in the past so I am sure you read Atkins but you might think about reading it again. I did, plus I read his 1972 version. Not sure if you are into it but it was lower carb and before all of the SA were invented. There is a 72 group here online if you want to take a look at it. I think I am somewhere in between. I try to change things up when my weight isn't moving. I have to keep it pretty low carb too. But have to keep the Fat up so I am not starving and keep the calories at a reasonable amount. I am on the last 20-25 lbs I want to lose and it goes a little slower then. I just added some extra exercise too. You might want to try that. Not sure if you already do.

I think you have the same type of mindset that I did. I did the diet (sort of half way) and lost weight. Then I fell off and didn't get back on for a few years. At that time I knew this was IT. It was now or never. I decided right there and then July 21, 2008, to change my life forever. SOOO glad I did. It is so much easier this time because I feel in control and I didn't in the past because my mind wasn't in it really. I can tell yours is and I wish you the BEST of luck. You'll do great!!! come visit my journal anytime. If you ever have any questions, everyone here has some great opinions. They have helped me a bunch.

TTFN,

Lisa

I agree with Lisa -- about making sure you keep the FAT intake high; indeed, I've even seen suggestions of getting your fat up to 80 percent of your daily consumption.

I can't do THAT, no way -- but I'm trying an experiment of taking a quick sip of olive oil before any meal, and so far, I've seen that it really does seem to slash the appetite, and thus keep those dangerous cravings far, far away.

But I don't know if I'll quickly develop a tolerance to this addition of FAT grams, or not. Just a little experiment.

[QUOTE=LMMS]Welcome Gina!!!

On a side note, the skin condition isn't Rosacea, is it? I have that, so I was wondering.

It was called " Pityriasis Rosea " I just looked it up. Whenever I say Rosea, a lot of times people mistake it for Rosacea. It is a lot worst than that though. The red marks itch like crazy and everything I did made it worst. It only lasted a few months total but by the time it ended I was sick of therapy lights and my Dr...lol. She kept telling me it was a possible allergy to fish and to stop my diet. But after I stopped it kept on getting worst. I had shots and everything for allergies then she sent me to a specialist and they were great. It took a few days for her to figure it out but after she asked if I had any bite like marks on my body I knew she could help. I told her that a few days before the itching started, I thought I had been bitten by a spider I had saw near me on my stomach. The area began to blister and drain and my doctor had said it was nothing. She asked to see the area and after that plus a few teasts she told me that I had a somewhat rare skin disease. It will go away over time and not many get it a second time. Light therapy, creams, and time were the only thing to help me thru it. But I still cringe at times because now I think I have dermatitis or eczema and it looks so much like Rosea.

Sounds bad. I never heard of that. At least it can go away and it probably won't come back. That would be nice. I had fine skin until lately. Rosacea runs in our family a bit. We are Irish with thin skin. My skin is so fair you can really see it. The only treatment that might work is laser treatment. Pretty expensive.

My dermatologist wanted to put me on antibiotics but I don't believe in them for this condition after the reading I have done. I use some anti-redness make up and wear tons of sunblock, always have. Most people have no idea I have it. The make up was expensive and very light. I don't put my face in the cold wind. hot wind is kind of bad too.

Some people have problems with alcohol, luckily I don't really drink and spicy foods. I am lucky i don't have a problem with that. I am salsa girl. It's pretty LC and I know it has sodium but it is yummy.

Hope induction is treating you well. I am getting ready to make a big salad with my new fave dressing, Ken's Caesar, zero carbs per serving. There are a few LC dressings out there but this is a nice one.

Have a great weekend,

Lisa

I thought that they'd discovered that rosacea is due to H.Pylori infection in the stomach. That's the bacteria that causes ulcers in some people. And that once the Helicobactor Pylori is eradicated, the rosacea disappears. Apparently I misunderstood what I read, or the journalist miswrote the actual research.

What can you eat with salsa? I mean while watching carbs? I didnt think about that and while I know tomatoes aren't allowed in the beginning, it's still good to know.

d while I know tomatoes aren't allowed in the beginning,In my 2002 copy of DANDR, tomatoes are on the Other Vegetables list. You can have 1 cup of tomatoes, or any of the other veggies on that list, any day that you only have 2 cups of salad veggies. :)

Welcome Gina!!

This is a great forum and you will find awesome support here!! :agree: Many of us have done low-carb before and had success but for one reason or another went back to eating high-carb and are now back to low-carb. This way of eating gets a hold of a person and the health, energy :hyper: , and weight loss can't be forgotten, especially when compared to the physical and emotional toll of the unhealthy way of eating we used to do!

It's a good idea to journal. You can list your food intake and others can drop by to say hi  , give suggestions from their experience to help you fine-tune your eating for best success, or just to talk. It's a good gig. Visit me there anytime.

I'm really glad your skin condition isn't permanent! You must've been so relieved when you found that out!

Where or when did you learn you use the punching bag? That sounds like great stress relief!

Have fun!!

I love a couple tablespoons of a SUGAR-FREE salsa on top of scrambled eggs. I don't put cream in my scrambled eggs, just a dash of water - so there's no carbs from cream, and the eggs have I think 1.2 net carbs.

Hi Gina

How was your first official day?

Wow, you are exercising already, that's great!!

So have you found any interesting-looking recipes you're going to try this week? I started simple and made stuffed cabbage and cauliflower casserole last week, and they were both easy and turned out great. (I'm not much of a cook yet)

Well, just wanted to say hi and let you know I'm on this journey with you too!

I was researching ways to have fun exercising since that's the only way I will stick to it. I saw this routine that said it will help you tone while help you lose. It was simple enough and fun. It said to break your routine into 3 parts and you can switch up how you do it but always do all three and each one must be done for at least 15 minutes. They were....Walking or Running, Boxing Bag, and Weights. I do the Treadmill and Bag longer than the weights because my arms and legs are still weak so I can't do it as long. But I do do all 3 at least once a day. And the treadmill I do twice most days.

The punching bag is a HUGE stress reliever. I put my Ipod on to a tune and depending on the mood I am in, really "workout". But that too is hard at first. I bought the gloves but they hurt my arm that has a plate and screws from a car accident. So I use a couple of towels and wrap them around my fists. It feels a little better since the gloves take some time to get used to.

Maybe you should try it. It really is relaxing in its own little way.

The first day was okay but today is kinda hard. I am so wanting that peach soda in the fridge...lol. But I am drinking nothing but water for the 1st week. And after that, I only drink the Sam's Club sparkling water. But it tastes so sweet so I only drink a few sips at dinner.

As for recipes, I am still looking for some good ones. I am a picky eater but I love cabbage so that might be good.

Well, thanks for joining me because it's always more fun in groups than solo. Now I can cry on a shoulder about it...lol

Good luck to you too!!!!
