Hi,
I just started my psuedo atkins diet last week and I am having a good time of it. I have based my diet off excerpts of Atkin's books (wikkipedia et al.)

So far it seems that I have been loosing 2 per day (the scale told me 3lbs today). I know some of the initial loss is supposed to be water, but I'm psyched anyway.

I bought a 2 year membership at a nearby gym, and was hoping to just work my weight off without dieting much. Well... I haven't been to the gym much, and decided I would do it the lazy way for now. I know I need to get more exercise, but it seems like when I get home from work I just don't create the motivation. I just finished my MS degree and entered the real world, and it has been hard to adjust to the routine schedule.

My daily meals go something like this: 1-1oz string cheese for breakfast, ~3oz of almonds for lunch, steamed shrimp (8oz) and broccoli/green beans (12oz) for dinner (occasionally throwing in a Chinese-style chicken dumping or two).

I'm definitely getting bored but I am headed to the grocery store today to get more green and lean things. :yum:

As for my health, I feel like I can focus better, have more energy, and don't sleep as much. Although I have had alot of diarrhea, bad tastes in my mouth (due to ketosis, from what I have read), and infrequent stomach pain and nausea. I attribute the stomach pain to pains of hunger, but I dont actually have very strong cravings.

Anyhow, this site seems like an excellent resource, and I look forward to meeting y'all.
PEACE

Hi there ... I'm a returning newbie. Congrats on the weight loss. Myself, I would need a much bigger breakfast to get going in the morning. I use the string cheese things for snacks !! :)

Good luck

Welcome! Glad you found us! :)

I think you need to eat more food. Also, you need more fat in your diet. (See Why Low-Carb Diets Must Be High-Fat, Not High-Protein (http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/fat-not-protein.html) and The Skinny on Fats (http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/skinny.html).

South Cacalacky - LOVE IT! hahahaha

Welcome aboard - just returning after being on hiatus myself. Long story -it's in my journal.

I have done very well on Atkins before - intend to again. One suggestion I would have for you - BIG breakfasts - and eat at least 6 times a day - small meals throughout the day. I'm a grazer - so it works very well for me. Starting up tomorrow - WAY excited!

There are LOTS of recipes here - good ones too. Be sure to cruise around and collect some of those.

Good luck on your adventure.

Hey guys,
Kisal- I added more volume and fat to my diet immediately after you suggested. Also, I appreciate the resources.

I my weight loss has slowed in the last few days. I can't really attribute it to any single factor but I have not lost my optimism. There have been a couple nights where I drank 4-5 beers, and combined with eating more, etc it has just worked out this way.

iseeku, is there a particular recipe you would recommend?

pleased to meet all of y'all

You have just GOT to try Deep Dish Pizza Quiche! YUM-Oh!

When I was low carbing the first time - alcohol threw me into a stall - especially beer. LOTS of carbs - look it up - or e-mail Budweiser (or whichever you buy)

When I DID drink beer - I drank the Michelob Ultra - or Lite - they were about the same.

Don't touch the stuff now

Stay in touch! Support is very important - go start a journal and start communicating.
