I need a buddy for "special" support. I wish to find someone over 50 who has more wisdom that I have *sighs*. I FORGIVE myself !!! I should make it great THIS time because looking at all my past jounals, it seems that I was on the way THERE when I "missed" the goal! This time I won't *pray, pray, pray*. Any Christian friend here ?
I don't like the way I look in the mirror anymore (bwahh!). I also know that this is NOT healthy at all! HELP!

I turned 50 in Nov. and am having a really hard time losing any weight. I lost almost 50 lbs about 4 years ago doing atkins in a short period of time. Fell off the wagon and gained most of it back. I have been trying half heartedly for almost a year. Just when I start to see a few pounds fall I get discouraged and eat things I don't need to. Since Christmas I have stayed with the plan and not had more that 30 grams of carbs and still not lost an ounce!! I am hoping to stay the course and tell myself that the health benifts are more important than the weight loss. But I still get discouraged. Maybe we can team together and do this time.

Welcome. While I am neither Christian or 50, I can certainly understand where your coming from. I found, for me, the best way is to start a journal. I have one I write in by my bedside and I talk to myself about not cheating or if I cheated, why. I think it has helped cause I have lost 11 pounds in 12 days since I quit cheating. I only set weekly goals that are attainable and none of those goals include losing weight.
My first goal was to go cheat free for one day, the second day was easy.
My latest goal is to see if I can reduce my fat some.
If you ever need a buddy, just come visit in my journal and Ill visit you in yours

Hi bugsey. I'm more than 50 and am here to support you. Last year I lost 25 pounds and felt I was well on my way to my goal--then I visited a friend, ate off plan and ended up gaining it all back plus some.

I'm back on induction and my first goal it to get through the first two weeks at less than 20 carbs--that's my only goal. From then I will start setting other goals. Start tracking your food in MyPlan--that will help you see what you're actually consuming. From there you can start tweaking your plan.

Welcome aboard.

Thank you for all the support. I put in a prayer or two for you guys :) I am now on the 8th day of Atkins (supposedly anyway) and I got a bit hypoglycemic this afternoon which made me eat 2 spoons of peanut butter to "relieve" make me feel better. Anyway I did the whole Atkins for a whole week and I noticed that my clothes FIT better... I am NOT weighing myself yet because I plan to do that after another week. I feel great and I now feel that walking up the stairs isn't a "huge" task anymore!

I will do the next week Atkins induction again but will probably switch to something like the South Beach diet because I usually get a feeling of "weakness" after so many days of low carbing... pray for me guys!

I believe we all can do IT!

I'm 54 and I try to walk with Jesus every day, every once in a while I forget to invite him...dummy me.
I'd be happy to be there for you any time you need me.

Along with my other prayers, I read this scripture out loud every day. It has helped my journey immensely.
Trust in the Lord with all
thine heart; and lean not unto
thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge
Him, and he shall direct
thy paths.
Proverbs 3: 5,6

Like you, I seem to forget God sometimes. Thank you for reminding me that Jesus is Lord even of this "diet". I think I am doing great except that I find it difficult to exercise. I ask Him to direct my paths indeed; to protect us and our bodies with His precious blood and to stay with us... thank you Respira :)

Hi ladies. I was wondering if any of you would be interested in starting a goal keeping challenge? It might be fun to have one just for those of us over 50. We could make out our plans and goals and "report" how we did daily or weekly. Anyone interested? :)

Hi Cricket. LOL and Thank-you! :)

Do you know what is causing the pain? http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/icons/icon9.gif

Here's the list: cervical and spinal stenosis;arthritic hips and back;bone tumer in shoulder (begnign) but major pain at night, torn rotator cuffs ( 2 plates in neck)

There's more, but others have it worse. My last position was with Hospice. I am grateful that this is all I have!

If I didn't have the bad days, I wouldn't appreciate the good ones :D
