I'm definitely not new to this forum (been on and off for four years), but I'm new to diabetes. I lost about 25 pounds a few years ago on Atkins, but gained it back after I just couldn't totally give up the carbs. I've tried everything under the sun since then, but just couldn't lose any weight at all. My inability to lose weight and feeling lousy all summer led me to see my doctor, where I was diagnosed with diabetes. My A1c is 6.2, not too bad, and my sugars typically run in the 100's, with some 200's (especially after POTATOES and BREAD in any way, shape, or form). I changed doctors after my diagnosis, after we just weren't seeing eye to eye, and my new doctor has a special interest in diabetes and is totally supportive of the lower carb lifestyle. I'm on metformin 1000 mg and take several supplements (cinnamon, alpha lipoic acid, B-complex) to try and help with my sugars.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been reading the threads in here and really appreciate the great information! I'll probably be asking you all some questions along the way. I've finally accepted that I have diabetes (after a period of defiance) and know I have to deal with it. I absolutely want to feel healthy again.

Welcome Rhonda.
I have a similar history; off and on the lowcarb wagon without much weight loss success for years....
Until diabetes. Sometimes I'm almost grateful for it, as it has provided the motivation to stick with low carb until it finally became my preferred way of eating.
That's great luck you have a supportive doctor.

Hi Rhonda and Welcome! :) It's a scary thing being diagnosed with diabetes. There is so much conflicting information out there. I can tell you that LC has basically changed my life and made me a much healthier and happier person! I spent many years reading everything I could get my hands on about diabetes. Knowledge is power! If you have any questions, ask! I'm sure there will be someone here who either knows the answer or can guide you in the right direction to find the answer!
