Below are some basic questions and answers for the MyPLAN tool.

Please bear in mind that the tool is still in development, so some things may change in future. I shall also add new questions and answers as I see new questions asked here in the MyPLAN forum. :)

Entering Food
Q
I can’t figure out how to add items to the food/menu tracker.
A
Start with search or food search (on the left side of the page) and enter the food as a favourite. After a while, you’ll have most of the foods you use regularly in favourites making it much easier.

Q
Is there an easier way to use the search tool? For example, when I enter chicken breast I get 7 pages of chicken products!
A
Click on advanced search tips. There are lots of hints there to make searching easier.

Q
How can I add more than one item at a time?
A
If the items are listed in the box on the entry page (either favourites, recent items, or results in the search box), you can select multiple items by pressing on the Ctrl key, and selecting the items with your mouse. This should add all the selected items at once.
Or if you are a Mac user, use your "open apple" key, and press shift.

Q
I added the wrong thing for one of my meals. How do I remove it?
A
Mark the box at the right side of the food item, then select delete from this day’s entries from the drop down menu, and click submit.

Q
How do I go to another day to enter food, for example, to enter what I think I’ll eat tomorrow. I can’t click on the days on the little calendar unless I have made entries for those days.
A
You can do that at the top of the screen where it says Jump to:

Q
How do I add lemon juice, for example the juice of half a lemon?
A
Search for lemon juice, raw and enter it into your day's foods. From the drop down menu, you can then select 1 lemon yields and select 0.5 (or however much of the lemon juice you will use).
If you are going to be using this regularly, it will help to add it to your favourites.

Q
How do I delete a food item from my list of favourites?
A
Go to Food Lists on the left hand side, and select Favourites. Then tick the box beside the item you wish to delete, and select Delete from my favourites from the drop down menu underneath the list.

Recipes
Q
How do I enter a recipe?
A
First, click on New Recipe at the left hand side of MyPLAN. Next, enter the name of the recipe, and number and type of servings. Then click on create recipe. That brings up the place where you can enter the recipe ingredients.
Once you have entered all ingredients, along with recipe instructions if you wish, enter the correct amounts then click on update servings.

Your recipe is now complete, and you can see the full counts there.

Recipes are automatically added to "Favourites." You can also find all your recipes by clicking on "Food Lists" at the left hand side, then clicking on "My Recipes" at the top.

Q
I made a recipe, but now I can’t find it.
A
Click Food Lists, at the left side of the page, and you’ll see My Recipes at the top.

Q
I want to change the ingredients in one of my recipes. How do I do it?
A
Go to My Recipes (click Food Lists first) and you will see edit beside each recipe. Clicking on that will take you to the page where you can change it.

Q
How do I delete a recipe?
A
Go to My Recipes by clicking on Food Lists. First click on the box beside the recipe you no longer want, then click on Delete recipe from the dropdown menu.
Note, if you have already used the recipe in a day's intake, you will only be able to delete the recipe after first deleting it from where you have recorded it in your daily intake log.

Custom Foods
Q
How do I find my custom foods?
A
Click Food Lists, at the left side of the page, and you’ll see My Custom Foods at the top.

Q
How do I delete a Custom Food?
A
Go to My Custom Foods by clicking on Food Lists. First click on the box beside the food item you no longer want, then click on Delete from my custom foods from the dropdown menu.
Note, if you have already used the custom food in a day's intake, you will only be able to delete the food item after first deleting it from where you have recorded it in your daily intake log.

Q
How do I enter products with sugar alcohols, such as Atkins bars?
A
Enter the total carb count into Carbohydrate by difference and then enter the net carb count into Custom Carb Count PECC (in Additional Data, under the Basic Data.)

Q
How can I edit my custom foods?
A
Go to your list of Custom Foods and click on the item you wish to change. Then click on Customize and you will see where you can add or subtract the appropriate info.

Bulk Entries
Q
What’s the Bulk Entry and how does it work?.
A
This allows you to create a day’s worth (or a meals’s worth) of entries, all preconfigured with the amounts and servings.
If you choose Single Meal you can add a meal, such as a salad, to any meal of any day you wish. It’s like a recipe, only once the bulk entry is added to the meal, the items show individually, and can be edited if necessary.
If you choose Multiple Meals you can add a whole day's worth of meals. For example, bacon and eggs for breakfast, followed by chicken and salad for lunch, followed by steak with broccoli for dinner.
All entries from your Single and Multiple Meals can be edited as necessary.

Q
How do I delete a Bulk Entry?
A
Go to your list of Bulk Entries (press Food Lists to find it), then check the box beside the entry you no longer want, and click on delete bulk entry items from the dropdown menu.

Miscellaneous
Q
Has fibre already been subtracted in MyPLAN?
A
Yes and no. ;) It depends which option you choose in Edit Settings.
If you wish to subtract the fibre yourself, and have the fibre displayed in your Daily Entry, select Show Fiber Count.
If you wish to have the fibre already subtracted, select Show PECC.
Note that if you choose Show PECC, you can still see how much fibre you have consumed by going to Basic Data in your Daily Summary.

Q
Can I share my MyPLAN information with other forum members?
A
Yes. Click on Edit settings, then change "No one may view my logs" to "Other forum members may view my logs."
This will give you a MyPLAN icon at the bottom of each of your posts, on which other forum members can click to see how you are doing.

Q
Can I transfer the MyPLAN information to another post?
A
Yes.
At the bottom of your daily food entry, or the detailed meal view, you will see just above the pie chart legend, 3 links to export that day's food entry.

1. Journal: This will copy the food entry as a new post in your journal.

2. BBCode: This will you allow you to view/edit the bbcode, before you cut and paste it to your journal, or you can download as a file

3. HTML: This will allow you to view the entries in HTML format, and you can cut and paste, or download as a file.

Hi Denise,

First of all, you can't do it via MyPLAN. ;) You click on "User CP" on the green menu bar above the posts, then go to "Edit Profile." Just scroll down until you come to "Which low carb plan do you follow?" Don't forget to click on "Save Changes" at the bottom. (Been there, done that  )

Cheers,

Is there a way I can link My Plan in my journal, I'd like someone to check it out to tell me if my fat and protein levels are too high, I didn't think so at first but another poster said fats shouldn't be above 70-75%, protein 20%....I exceed those numbers by far on induction alone, maybe I'm not doing it right?

Hi Jordanna,

If you click on Progress and Charts on the left, you will then find where to add your weight. :)

First of all, there is no problem with those numbers. Fats are fine at 75% or more. And protein is fine to be 30% of your calories. Both protein and fats have no maximum level.

If you like you can add each day's MyPLAN to your journal by clicking "Export to journal" on the Daily Entry page. Or, you can go to Edit settings (on the left) where you'll see privacy options. There you can change "No one may view my logs" to "Other forum members may see my logs." That will give you a little "MyPLAN" icon under every post which can be clicked by other members to see how you are doing. :)

Rosebud...I have my Journal option to be private, "No one can read", I still have the Journal icon under my posts. I really don't use the journal anymore so it is kind of misleading. Must be one of the "bugs", it being a Beta. Must be the only one though, I think the site is great and recommend it highly. In fact, I got banned from a Forum for doing so!!!!

Your journal is a completely different thing to your MyPLAN. ;)

It is not possible to have your journal set so that no one else can read, only your MyPLAN information. If you don't wish other members to read your journal, you are best to keep one offline. If you no longer wish to have a journal, simply click on the report post icon http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/buttons/report.gif and ask for it to be removed. If you wish to resume journalling at any time, it can be restored for you. :)

I presume you mean deduct calories? I am not aware of a way to do this at present on MyPLAN. But do you realise that you don't really need to count calories on low carb plans, only carbs need be counted?

Perhaps once you have chosen a plan to follow (as I suggested in another post), you will understand better.

I wish you all the best. :)

4EVR, that's my problem, too! I keep entering in new daily weights, but nothing, if you'll pardon the expression, is shifting...

Thanks! I feel dumberer... haha. Down a pound from yesterday and my calories were about 2375. That is encouraging...only second day but much better than a gain! I tried the Mascarpone Parfait last night and it was ok. I will probably sweeten it a bit more and maybe have it over some sf jello. Felt guilty eating it but I guess since I had a loss it was ok!

Hi there, can anyone explain to me in simple terms how to use this website? I am not very bright as far as online programs are concerned and when I log on, I do not know where to go and what to do. I just became a member the other day and am still looking for a "book teaching me the basics of how to use this website". See, I told you I was stupid. I get so confused just clicking on this link and then clicking on that link - I honestly don't know what I am doing. Please help!!!! Thanks so much!

Hi, I'm new to the marvellous world of My PLAN and I love it. Now, I'm in trouble when I search for some basic products for my diet. For instance, when I search for sour cream or Mayo, a lot of options come up for each product but they are low fat or fat free version... I cannot find the whole version to add to my list... Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for your help :)

I know what you mean about some products. ;)

Mostly it's just a matter of patiently sifting through them. For example, if you scroll down a little, you will see "sour cream, cultured."

Personally I tend to add products as "custom foods." It's fiddly at first, but after a while it becomes really helpful to have everything I need right there in my "favourites."

HTH. Keep asking if you need more help. :)

There is a drop down menu beside the "100 grams" that lets you change the grams to ounces. To change your default from "100 grams" to ounces, click on "edit settings" and you will see how to change your defaults.

100 grams is about 3 or 4 ounces. :)

Can someone please help me. I am looking to add in some Nestle Nesquick cocoa power into my food log. I did a search and it does not come up, so I am trying to add a new food item. After I add in all the info, it says something about how I didn't add or enter the info correctly.

Any ideas ? Here is the info:

Calories: 35
Total Fat: 1g
Total Carb: 7g
Dietary Fiber: 1g
Sugars: 3g **(from the milk you add, which I do not)
Protien: 1g

Any ideas ? Thanks.

Unfortunately, manufacturers often seem to err on their nutritional labels.

If you add up the numbers, the calories should come to 41 - 4 cals per carb gram, 4 calories per protein gram and 9 cals per fat gram.

So try again, giving 41 as the number of calories. :)

Mon, Aug-03-09, 17:40
Thank you VERY much for the quick reply Rosebud. =) I entered it as 41 calories, and your right, it worked.

New question: After it got entered, on the right side where it says: Carb, Prot, Fat, PECC, Cals the #'s are all different from what I just entered. Now it's saying 23.6 carb, 3.4 prot, 3.4 fat, 20.3 PECC, etc...

WHY ??!!

I just tried entering a new recipe. Is the program supposed to give the nutritional breakdown of the contents of the recipe? Because if yes, please tell me how to do it. Thanks in advance.

Kisal
Mon, Feb-07-11, 14:16
Yes, it will give you the nutritional breakdown. After you have typed your recipe into the space provided, click on "Create Recipe".

Then, using the search box below your recipe, search for each ingredient and click on "Add Ingredient to Recipe". When you have added all of the ingredients in this way, and adjusted for the amount of the ingredient used in the recipe, the numbers for the carbs, protein, fat, etc. should show along the bottom. The numbers are for the entire recipe.

When you enter that food on your Daily Entry page, the program automatically calculates the numbers for the amount selected. :)

There is no quick and easy way that I know of. Sorry. For the food lists, you'd need to go to "food lists" (on the left hand side) and just delete everything as you go. The entries will be harder, and will depend on how many you have made.

I'm not sure why you'd bother. For me, I only look at old entries if I want to find something specific, and very old entries, well I never look at those. :daze:

As Rosebud noted, you'd have to go through your old food log pages one at a time to delete them; not really worth it IMO. They're easy enough to ignore ;).

That being said, you can delete an entire day's entries with a single click. At the top of the Daily Entry page (http://forum.lowcarber.org/myplan.php?&do=summary), put a check in the box at the top right (on the orange bar); this will select *all* items. Scroll to the drop-down menu at the bottom right and select "Delete from this day's entries", then Submit.

If you want to delete old data from your weight loss chart so that it starts fresh with your current weight .. that too can be done with a single click per page of entries. On the Weight Stats page (http://forum.lowcarber.org/myplan.php?&do=editweightstats), put a check in the topmost box in the list (below the graph); this will select 50 entries at a time. Scroll down and click the Delete Selection button. Repeat page by page until all old entries are gone. Note** .. if the graph doesn't change with the deletions, you might need to refresh your browser page to purge the old image from its cache.

Good luck :rose:
