I recently had a baby on 091101, and I was wondering if it was a good idea to be on a low carb diet and nursing.

Congrats on your baby :baby: ... boy or girl??

I'll give you links to some of the lowcarb program sites, and their official stance on low-carb and pregnancy ... Atkins FAQ's (http://www.atkinscenter.com/faq/faq.asp) .. (type breastfeeding in the keyword search box)

Protein Power FAQ's (http://eatprotein.com/answers10.html#10a)

Carbohydrate Addicts FAQ's (http://www.carbohydrateaddicts.com/preg.html)Basically, they recommend following Maintenance levels of their programs (Carb Addicts says no, period, to their program, since 2 meals a day are very low carb) ... this means approx. 100g carbs per day, and a minimum level of protein to meet the demands that nursing will put on your body. And lots of water. Atkins lists some vitamin & mineral supplements too ... you should certainly be taking a good quality daily supplement with extra folate, B12, calcium and potassium.

Why not pop into our Introductions forum and tell folks a bit about yourself .. you'll get lots of support and encouragement.:)

All the best to you and your new baby
