My name is Cheryl, I am new on this site..
I found myself on this site as I was looking to find out what kind of alcoholic beverage can you have if you are dieting, it's a tough time of the year..
I have lots of dinner parties and sometimes it's hard to just drink water and lemon as suggested but diet program, but I do live real and was looking for suggestions...

Hi Cheryl,

Welcome to the forum. :) Did you know we have a specific area here for diabetics including those on Dr Bernstein's plan? Here is the link: http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=45

Spirits have no carbs, so you are always safe to have a spirit with a sugar free mixer. There is a list here of beverages and their carb counts that may help too: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/carbcounter/bev.shtml

One thing you need to know about alcohol while low carbing is that we need a lot less to get the same effect. ;) Yes, low carbers make very cheap drunks. And of course, being diabetic, you will need to exercise caution anyway, although I'm sure you know that. :)

Cheers,

Rosebud:rose:

Welcome to the forum, Cheryl!

I'm new here though not to LC. You soon will find that there are loads of pepole here willing to help and offer encouragement, advise and a bunch of ideas. The best way to get interaction with fellow members is to open a Journal (http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=36). A wonderful tool to enable other folks visit with you and check on your progress.

I know it's a difficult season full of social enagements. Tonight I have a dinner invitation at some friends' and know for a fact that is going to be Mexican food. Talk about carbs! My plan is to eat very small portions and eat as much meat and veggies as possible. I may eat a snack before we leave the house so I am not hungry and tempted.

Wish you all the best in your journey.

Latin Guy
