I just signed up to this site and I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I've never done anything like this before and I feel stupid doing it, but I'm doing it anyonamously so I figured, "Why Not". :)

I'm a 5'9" male, 33 years old. I weigh 244 and my goal weight is 180.

The foods that I love that I'll have to make a tough change with are pasta (I'm part Italian :D ), cereal, bread, rice, etc.

Anyway like I said...I just wanted to say  to everyone.

Take care,
Petrock

A big welcome petrock!!
Hey..we all started off feeling uncomfortable about posting on here..its new, its different and you dont know anyone!
Well lets change that!!..firstly open a journal, which will allow folk to visit you and cheer and support you along the way..plus you can keep track of your progress to goal,
Secondly..decide on a plan that you want to run with..Atkins, Protein power, south beach..theres lots of info on this forum if you search around!
Try here for a start:
http://www.lowcarb.ca/atkins-diet-and-low-carb-plans/
And Thirdly..we all found it tough initially to give up foods that we though that we could never survive without!!..but trust me..your cravings WILL subside and you'll discover heaps more food just waiting for you to try that are equally if not vastly superior!!..plus the benefits to your health and well being will be worth the changes you'll make!
So..heres some links to induction foods and menus that may help you get started:

Another thought..you may want to check out the challenge/buddies and countdown section..you'll be able to hook up with people with similar interests etc..its always easier if you've got buddies to do things with..even if you can't see us!!
Look forward to seeing you around and Good Luck!!

Thank you all very much for the warm welcome and for the advice. I could use as much advice as anyone is willing to give.

I've never done well at diets or going to the gym before because I lacked willpower.

I think there's enough willpower around here to go around.

Thanks again all.

Lots of people here have overcome limitations including "no will power". They basically choose a plan, start in, and keep at it step-by-step. Some of us figure out what works best right off. Others stumble around a bit, and then figure out what works. The point if those of us who keep on trekking eventually find we're making progress.

You will too!

Reading other journals is very, very helpful. These people have gone through what you are going through now. You have to sort around to find the ones who have had similar problems, but they are there. The best part is you can read how they had the problems, found a solution, and some number of months later have achieved great losses and changes toward healthy lifestyles.

Good luck and welcome to the Forum,
