I have recently been diagnosed with polycystic ovary disease, my doctor has refered me to a specialist at the hospital. (I have to wait 17 weeks for an appointment!!)

The weight side of things is getting me down but don't know what to do. I have read that a high protein low carb diet is the best way to loose weight.

I have one big problem, i'm a vegetarian so don't know how this would be achieved??? Any vege's out there who have succeded in this or anyone who has any ideas??

Any info would be great as i have not been told a lot about the illness, just what i've read on the net!!

Cheers

Koo, if you scroll on down the list of forums you will find one for vegetarians. There are a lot of folks here who have successfully combined low carb and being a vegetarian. As additional help, there is also a PCOS forum where you can get some great information and support.

Good luck to you.

I am a vegetarian and you can see from my stats I have made Atkins work for me. There are other low carb plans that are not as restrictive as Atkins in the beginning-they might be easier. Check out "Which low carb plan is for me" on the right.

I eat a lot of Morningstar Farms, portabello mushrooms, tofu and squashes. Since I don't have to give up cheese-this has been pretty easy for me. I basically just gave up pasta, potatos, bread and sugar.

Hi koo!

I am also a vegetarian who has been on atkins for almost a year. I have found it very easy to do. ( I do eat cheese and eggs)

for recipes I often substitute veggie meat for regular meat or just adapt recieps that I used to use that were previously high carb. looking at the journals of vegetarians can also be a helpful way to find recipe ideas.

You can do this! I know dr. atkins was a little doubtful but I think this is one of the healthiest ways of eating vegetarian.
