( BW)(FL-GO2PHARMACY)(GORX) Go2Pharmacy, Inc. Purchases Protein Food Technology

Business Editors

LARGO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2001--Go2Pharmacy, Inc. (Nasdaq:GORX), through its wholly owned subsidiary, Breakthrough Engineered Nutrition, Inc., announced today that it purchased a proprietary Protein Film Food Technology from a privately owned functional food research firm. This technological platform, which integrates developments in both protein chemistry and process engineering, will enable Breakthrough to manufacture a variety of unique, protein-based functional foods that are sugar-free and low in total carbohydrate content. Breakthrough plans to utilize this technological platform to create high protein/low carbohydrate chips, bite-sized candies, wafers, bars, cereals, crackers, and other unique snacks. These foods will be differentiated from all other snack items due to the unique, rigid low carbohydrate-high protein composition they possess versus their traditional counterparts that use carbohydrates to achieve the same rigidity and strength. "This technology represents a tremendous advancement in functional foods. We can now eliminate the obesity promoting characteristics of traditional snack foods by using protein as the primary structural agent, rather than using simple carbohydrates and starches. Now, the multi-millions of dieters, diabetics, athletes, and others following low carbohydrate and low glycemic dietary regimens will be able to snack again. Furthermore, these foods will provide the general public with convenient and healthy snack alternatives that previously didn't exist," explained Nate Bernstein, VP of Sales and Marketing for Breakthrough Engineered Nutrition, Inc.
Prior to the recent technology acquisition, Go2Pharmacy, Inc., through Breakthrough, had already successfully launched its first protein-based functional food, Lean Protein Snack Chips. Each 2 oz. bag of the snack chips contains 38 grams of protein, 0 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams sugar, and all-natural ingredients. Lean Protein Snack Chips are currently being distributed to health food stores, sport nutrition outlets, General Nutrition Centers, smoothie shops, Internet retailers, and convenience stores nationwide. Although Breakthrough will use the chips and its future products to target the niche low carb diet, diabetic, and bodybuilding/fitness markets, it also plans to penetrate the mainstream market. "In today's nutritional climate, the distinction between the mainstream market and diet market is rapidly disappearing. With obesity at an all-time high, more than 25 million Americans have turned to one of several low carbohydrate diets to control their weight." Bernstein continued, "Most of these diets also advocate above-average protein consumption, so the chips directly address their dietary needs as well as their desire to snack."
