So…now that we have our own room I would be very interested to know if any of you ladies had a complete Hysterectomy and what type of HRT are you on?
Low Carbing is still the only way to go. I was told that I have to reduce my fat intake to counteract the effect of HRT.
I have change to Estrogel these last few months and since I am staying a safe distance from Soya , I was just told of something called Promensil and Newphase.
Anyone is having a slow time loosing with HRT ?

Hi Pene,

I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago, and finally had ovaries and tubes removed earlier this year. And yes, my weight loss is very slow, but I take several other meds that I suspect do more to slow me down than the HRT. I take Premarin and cope really well on it. I recently stopped it for a week, and kerblam! - back came the hot flushes with a vengeance! Nasty.

I know that HRT has been implicated with weight gain and difficulty losing weight, but I believe these difficulties have a lot to do with the fact that our metabolisms slow as we age. And of course good old menopause itself.

BTW you may be interested to know that LittleAnne, a mod who has now lost 60 pounds, felt her weight loss improved greatly after she started HRT.

Cheers,

Roz

Hey Pen, I had a complete hysterectomy in 1989 because I had cervical cancer. I had taken estrogen (premarin) up until one year ago when I re-located to Tennessee. I stopped all medications after I moved here because I don't have any insurance. I have been doing fine, but maybe that's because I took the estrogen therapy for such a long time, I don't know. The only problem(?) I have now is minor hot flashes, which I have decided to cope with in a positive way. So far so good. The last two years I took the estrogen I switched to the patch. I liked that better than the pill, however, headaches and weight gain were a side effect for me.

Thank Roz and Joyce .I holler my menopause woe once in a while when things aren’t going well. The level of Estrogen is getting lower in my body and I have been having hot flashes lately. I have been having migraine from the Estrogel. I am kind of going nuts trying to figure out if I should quit everything or keep going on at half dose like I am doing at the moment.

I never took any HRT after menopause. After the bad news reports over the last year I suppose that is all for the best.

Hot flashes are the norm-but I blame 90% of that on the folks at work. The skinny kid in the cubie behind me has a space heater going all day( August in Virginia???!!)

I had a total hysto at age 30 in 1988 and have been on Premarin since 4 months after the surgery. I've not noticed any problems losing weight. Some folks might consider it slow, but hey, it's my journey and what's happening is right for me.

As for all the reports of the problems with HRT... :p I'm not giving it up! The world is a safer place with me on it because I become Ms. Hyde without it.

Hi Pen,

Yep - total h. in 1988 and I've been on HRT ever since. Took a very long time to find the one that worked for me, finally landed on monthly injections of Estradiol - really not as bad as it sounds, at least I don't have to worry about ANOTHER pill to take (love those supplements!!)

Weight loss excruiatingly slow, but I suspect that has more to do with metabolism slow-down than HRT. And of course, even legal foods can be over-eaten ... evil, evil calories.

As I understand it, by the way, the HRT that was studied and suspected of causing cancer, etc. was the combination of estrogen and progesterone - not estrogen alone. Many professionals that I have spoken to about it cite the study as being very ill-conceived and quite flawed. In any event, if you are simply taking estrogen (no need for progesterone if you haven't any ovaries) the worry of long term effects is minimized considerably.

That being said, why were you told to reduce your fat to "counteract" the effects of HRT. What effects will that counteract? You don't supppose that health person was attempting to slip in a little low-fat propaganda, do you? Gotta watch 'em all the time :-).

Stay well,

Holly

Actually, there's no need for progesterone if you haven't a uterus, whether or not your ovaries are intact. ;)

Hi Roz! I just checked out your pedometer challenge thread and that is such a good idea!

We've got an excercise challenge of sorts getting ready to start on Chloesue's thread 'Looking for ladies over 50'...want to come join us or at least tell the gals about the pedometer challenge? You'd be setting such a good example for us! :D

Dancing to the oldies, eh?! That sounds like a totally fun way to get the kinks out! :D

Hello everyone...

I had a complete hysterectomy in May of this year (uterine cancer originally thought to be cervical)...caught it early...got it all...all is well.

My doc started me on Vivelle-Dot patches while I was in the hospital (had only 1 hot flash while in the hospital AND I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER ONE!).

I started lc'ing on 7/7/03...stopped the patches on 7/9/03 because of what I read in DANDR. I haven't had any hot flashes...YET. Even though the one hf I had was bad (I can't think of a proper description, but the term "BLAST FURNACE" comes to mind), I decided to try to live with them rather than have my weight loss hindered.

I read somewhere on this site that estrogen was stored in fat...thought it sounded strange, but, hey...I haven't had any hf's...YET.
