Okay,
This thread is for those of us who are having trouble losing the last 10 pounds to get to our goal weight.
We're not fat anymore, we're just heavier than we want to be.
My personal goal is to lose the last 10 pounds by Christmas - that's not even a pound a month, so it should be achievable. On the other hand, I've been hovering around the same weight for the last 3-4 months.
At times, it's so frustrating, especially if we're following whatever plan we're on (CAD, Atkins) faithfully. It's tempting to give up and "accept" that we are at the weight that our bodies' want us to be at. No way! The battle is on ... and together we can win it!

Hiya Slimmin'!! What a great idea for a thread! Thanks for getting it started.
As you know, I've been struggling with the same weight range of 155-157 since September. I realize that I'm not doing all I can to get that number lower.... I'm not even exercising!! So I've got some work to do on this ol' head of mine. I'm in that process. This morning I searched the Atkins website looking for articles on "goal weight" and related subjects. I found some good ones that I'd like to share here. I plan to read each of them more thoroughly and then come up with a set of new mini-goals. Stay tuned!
Anyway, I look forward to working through this next challenge of my weight loss experience....and glad to have you as my buddy! :D

 Hi Slimmin, Teri and Bonnie, Today is my one year anniversary of beginning low carb. I am so happy to see this tread. We can do this!
In the past year, I got down as low as 127 lbs, but gained back. I now bounce between 130 and 135. I could not maintain 127 without constant exercise and without misery and worry about how much I was eating. No way to live and certainly not sustainable as a way of life. I want to figure out how to lose the rest of my weight, all of which sits stubbornly around my middle  , now matter how long it takes. I know from past 'dieting' experience that I am lean and comfortable at approx. 125 lbs. I am willing to do anything, short of liposuction, 'dieting', or heaven forbid: giving up my beloved butter! :p

Hi Everyone, I'm part of the 10 pound gang too. I've been stuck for months (not that the last month has been anyone's fault but my own).
I know that I have to get back to being hardcore about this - less wine, more exercise (i've mostly given up walking my hour walk to work, what with the cold - although I'm trying to stairmaster to make up for it), more water, less cheese  . I'm really happy with the way I feel in general, and very much like this WOE. But it surely would be nice to feel that I'm actually losing.
going to check out those links Teri gave us.

Hey guys, diddo on the last 10. I started here in May at 136, I am now 129, and holding. AND I MEAN HOLDING.
I am only 5'2", and feel comfortable around 120. Hope to see that number again someday. Been awhile.
Glad to see there is a thread, great idea. Currently I have been doing quite a bit of lifting, but needing to up my cardio.
I know we can do it guys. Its been really hard being stuck for so long.

Hello everyone. Count me in! I'm new to this forum, but have found it a source of encouragement, which I wished I had found earlier. Special thanks to TeriDoodle for giving me the link to this thread :sunny: (couldn't find a rose, so I'll send you the sun!)
Thanks also for all those links. I've copied them all into one long article - since I have a 1/2 hour train ride each morning & evening, I tend to print things to read on the train.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Gradually we'll have one after the other celebrating that they have reached their goal - - and others will join to take our place! :cheer: Then we can start a new group - "the arrived ones"

DRUMROLL PLEASE...........
After 4 months, I'm changing my stats to 154! The drop of one whole entire pound!! Yipeeee!
What did I do to effect this change? Hellifiknow....except that the last week or so I have made an effort to drop my calories a little. I was getting a little too attached to this cocoa/cream/cream cheese thingy I was making.... It started of that I'd eat just a TBSP for a sweet treat after dinner, then turned into 2-3 ounces! I also started an aggressive supplement plan about 6 weeks ago and I think it's helping...I just feel better, y'know? FYI, I'm taking all the metabolism-boosters and blood sugar helpers: Fish oil, CoQ10, Lipoic Acid, Chromium, and L-Carnitine....along with my multi and cal-mag.
I've been taking a hard look at my goals and plan the last few days and dug a little deeper.... I'm starting an exercise program next week and committed to dropping calories and carbs. Reading an inspiring journal (Moremad13) helped me immensely to get off my duff and go for it.
For those of you that are stuck, I urge you to re-examine your plan, maybe re-read your book: Is there an area where you can improve or make changes...get out of your old routine? Can you dig a little deeper to find your old enthusiasm? Can you re-commit to your goals today, as if this were DAY 1?

Welcome to everyone who has joined this thread ... I had no idea that there were so many people who were only 10 pounds from goal! Together we make a powerful support group.
Teri ... congratulations on being able to move your stats down! I know how hard you've been working towards that.
Your advice about re-examining our plans is a good one. I've been looking at what I'm eating at my RM, and notice that it's become less balanced in the last while. So, before I truly panic and go back on Atkins Induction (heaven forbid!), I'm going to make a real effort to eat truly balanced RMs. Starting today.
With the start of a new Pilates session, my exercise levels have increased this week. My weekly routine now looks like this:
Sunday
long easy run - at least 90 min and covering about 8 miles
one set of upper body exercises with dumb bells
Monday
easy run - 50 min (4 miles)
lowerbody workout with ankle weights (10-15 min)
yoga class after work (hour and 15 min)
Tuesday
elliptical - 40 min
3 sets upper body exercises with dumbbells - 35 min
Pilates class after work - 1 hour
Wednesday
cycle - 12 min
tempo run - 40 min (30 min at 7.1 mph, 5 min warmup and cooldown)
lowerbody workout with ankle weights (10-15 min)
Thursday
elliptical - 40 min
3 sets upper body exercises with dumbbells - 35 min
yoga class at lunch - 45 min
Pilates+Ball class after work - 1 hour
Friday
easy run - 50 min (4 miles)
lowerbody workout with ankle weights (10-15 min)
Saturday
absolutely nothing :D
I've also started taking a comprehensive list of supplements. (And before you ask, I had a good reason for starting to take each one of them, but for the life of me I can't remember what all the reasons were :p )
Every morning I take:
L-glutamine before and after I exercise
multi-vitamin
Cal-Mag
Vitamin C
potassium
chromium
evening primrose oil capsules
flax seed oil capsules
Before bed I also take Cal-Mag and Vitamin C
Right now, I'm also finishing off the Xenedrine SFX that I bought last fall ... I figure it can't hurt, although I don't see it helping much.
And today, my weight remains stuck at 146 - meaning that I'm 11 pounds from goal and VERY FRUSTRATED!!!

 Teri, congrats another 1 lb. gone forever.
Slimmin, I am in the same frustrating boat as you. The only way I have been able to get the scale to budge is to reduce intake to the point of hungry discomfort and to up my exercise to levels of freakish insanity. Indeed, I got down lower than goal this past fall, but the second I went back to eating normally and exercising at a comfortable pace, the weight came right back. This was as quick, if not even quicker regain than I used to experience after going off of my lowfat 'diets.' I don't really care so much about the number on the scale, in fact, I don't have a scale at home; I weigh only at my gym. But I do care that I still have what I call bra underhang and waistband overhang! :p I want to be able to sit comfortably without wads of fat spreading about.
I briefly considered doing an Atkins-style shake up thingy where I eat a lowfat, high carb menu for a few days. The problem is, I have no desire to eat in that manner and it is dangerous to me. I lost my appetite for pasta and I know that for me eating even one slice of bread is the fastest path to destruction. My present plan is to stick with my usual LC menus and eat only as much as I need to feel sated. My tendency is to eat huge servings of whatever LC substances please me. I don't count calories, but I know at times my portion sizes are enough to feed an army.
Also, does anyone have an educated opinion about cardio vs. lifting as the best method for getting rid of abdominal fat? When I am in the gym, I hear all these conflicting voices about which will work better, and I end up stressing instead of exercising. More cardio, at a more intense pace is supposed to reduce abdominal fat? Or is it lifting heavier weights for a short period of time? Or should I just sit on the floor and relax and stretch and pray that the weight will miraculously disolve?

Twiggy
Fri, Jan-24-03, 08:09
Teri, I don't mind ;) I am 42. Have had the very same shaped abdominal fatty blobs since I was 14. The rolls vary in size depending on my overall weight. At my thinnest, age 37-38, I lowfatted/starved/overexercised myself to a size 4 and had not one ounce of ab fat. When I gain, I gain almost all of my weight in my belly area. I have never had children and am verging on peri-menopausal, though still regular to the 28th day each month. Suggestions?

I just think that at our age (I'm 44) it's unrealistic to expect to be "flabless" and I hate to think that you'd be compromising your health and happiness by trying to make it happen. When I was doing my reading yesterday and in prior research about "realistic goal weights", I've concluded that a simple formula is to take the most comfortable weight from your youth and add 10#. (Adjusted of course, for whatever adjustments in lean body mass are needed). I'm not lecturing or anything, I just want you to be happy and healthy. If you're stressing out about having ZERO "flab", then you're gonna be stressing for the rest of your life from here on out! But if you don't feel like you're stressing and it's simply a goal you're trying to achieve, and you don't feel like your compromising your health to achieve it, then GO FOR IT!! :D
I'm sure you've though all this through before... but maybe not. I know that a light bulb went off for me when Razzle told me basically the same thing way back when ... and it made this entire journey so much easier for me. But that's me.

Teri, I wholeheartedly agree with you, but its hard sometimes to give up the image of ourselves as we'd *like* to be - strutting down a caribbean beach in a bikini without an ounce of flab.
I think I've been very realistic in my goals - heck, in my 20s I never got above 105 (i cant even imagine that now). But maybe I need to rethink them. I surely would like to lose that last 10 pounds though!

Well, Kiwi, I don't think that's an unrealistic goal! Using my little quickie-formula, 105 + 10 (age factor) = 115. 115 + 7#(?) added muscle = 122. Sounds great!
I guess I'm thinking of a girlfriend here at the office. She's tall and beautiful and about 47 years old. She's always stunning and wears about a size 4 or 6. She was moaning the other day about how flabby she's getting and to demonstrate her point she grabs about 3/4" of said "flab" above her waist. Come on!!

Kiwi ... I was never 105 (except when I was about 12!) I think that your goal weight sounds very reasonable - especially looked at in light of Teri's "formula".
I struggled with my weight throughout my teen years ... even though I was always athletic ... on all the school teams, a cheerleader, etc. Going away to University and living in a dorm was a complete disaster, and I quickly gained the "freshman 10". During my 20's I worked as a waitress, and, since I didn't have a car, rode my bike everywhere. My weight then was around 130 - occasionally, I would get it down below 125, but not for long ... and sometimes it would get as high as 135. In my 30's, after my kids were born, my weight got up as high as 150 - I joined Weight Watchers, and got it down to as low as 129 - which is too low (my periods stopped), then stabilized for years at about 135. Over the last 5-10 years, my weight gradually increased to about 150, topping at 153 last spring, which is when I started LCing. I dropped to 146 within 2 weeks, and since then, I have been as low as 139, but spent most of the time bouncing between 143-145. I'm not ready to give up on my goal of 135 yet, but I am starting to wonder if it's a trifle unrealistic given my age (48), height (5ft 6 1/22 in), and fitness level.

Fri, Jan-24-03, 10:02
Slimmin, I waitressed during my 20s too! I always called it free aerobics. I walked to work, and then spent the next 7 hours on my feet, then walked home. Too busy most days to eat (the money was great though). No wonder I only weighed 105 pounds.
I am guessing that since you've always been athletic, you probably have a lot of muscle, and look thinner than I would at your height and weight (i'm kind of "smushy"). The 30s really did it for me - I stopped waitressing, got a job where I sit all day, and time caught up with me. Loving to cook didn't help. I do think we have to remember that at our ages (i'm 42) we're not going to be tiny little things. Did you try that BMI index? That was kind helpful, I thought.
I remember reading back in the 80s that the equation should basically be 100 pounds for 5 feet tall, and an additional 5 pounds per inch. That seems incredibly unrealistic to me for women in their 40s.

20's wt around 130 :agree:
gave birth to a 10 lb. baby :( still blame him for my stomach) :D
wt. went up to around 150...tried low fat diet....lost a few lbs....
first set my goal at 130 but since I exercise on a regular basis can carry a little extra weight...when I was at my lowest weight everyone thought I was ten lbs. lighter so adjusted goal to 140...also find with LC you have a completely different profile...much better in every way
am amazed most of us here are in the same ht. range
5' 6"
now age :D ..have to slowly slide this out as I have been having a hard time getting used to this...just turned the big 50...
IMHO goal wt. is where your body will be content at...mine seems to not want to stay under 140....B

Bonnie: you look simply terrific. :) 50 is supposed to be the age when women start really having fun and getting what they want.
My check list:
-Age 42
-5'5"
-bartended in my 20s
-have watched my weight since I was 14.
-four major weight losses during the past decades. "Dieting" methods ranged from low fat to pure starvation
Thin (123-135 lb. range) at ages 19, 32, 37 and now.
The rest of the time, I ate everything in sight and blew up to between 140-165 lbs. Can you say yo-yo?! :p This past year on LC has been the very first time in my life when I haven't had to count calories or fat grams in every bite of food I ingest. What a relief. For that alone, I am happy to be where I am. ;)
-no kids
-love to cook
-ten extra pounds on me looks like 25 extra pounds on a normal person
-didn't make the cheerleading squad :( After school activities included school plays and musicals, boys, and partying :p

Halloouuuuuuuuu!
Thanks, Slimmin'.....
Ok, I will join you guys as well, although I have a little more than 10 lbs to go (due to my own faltering.....) I had already been as low as 141 lbs, back up to about 154.5, which is also the weight I started LC'ing at, in March of 2002. Always, always heavy all my life, I began my weight loss with low-fat/low-cal in February of 2001 and have come down from 214 lbs.... When I hit the middle 150's, I started 'losing it', my mind that is, AND control. THAT'S when I found our WOE!!!!! Been bouncing between the mid 150's and low 140's for a year now, and I think it is time to shake thinks up a little and seriously re-evaluate. On the flip side, I am very happy, that I DID NOT gain much weight back, considering......
As a matter of fact, I just spent several hours in my old food diaries yesterday, trying to find some common denominator to the times I did lose weight vs. the times I didn't or gained - nothing as of yet!
I hear you about the belly flab - I delivered two 6 lb babies at once 7 years ago!!Was it worth it? Most of the time!! LOL!!! But I find since I am LC'ing, or, Carb Controlling, as I call it, my skin in its entirety has healed tremendously! Even the stretchmarks. I don't think they will ever completely go away, but I am proud to say that I did wear a tankini on the beach last summer!! (the occasional pulling and tugging on it was just a mental thing....)
So, off we go together!!!! Let's make this fun and try to get rid of our returning frustrations! (at least we won't be having them all at the same time....) Looking forward to be part of this support group!

Hi All,
I hope its ok if I join in here. I actually have 14 pounds to go, really a lot more if I was going for flabless. I lose weight so slowly I just thought back to the most I remembered weighing and still feeling good about myself and took that as my goal weight.
twiggy I have most of my weight in my back and abs too. I just got a trainer to help me with only the upper body. If I learn anything new I'll let you know.
Unlike most of you I have not been knocking myself out trying to lose lately. So hopefully this thread will get me motivated to start working at it again.

I read through an great thread at the CAD/CALP board last night re: successfully switching from Atkins to CAD. I have never followed a strict LC plan; mine is something of an Atkins/Schwarzbein hybrid, but closer to Atkins.
Anyhow, that thread got me thinking: When did I lose most of my weight? Within the first 6-8 weeks of LCing! I did not follow a traditional induction, in fact, last year at this time, I spent the first few days of my 'diet' eating steamed veggies, lean meats and little to no fat, then I switched over to LC. Maybe it was the shocking switch from eating everything in sight to low fat and then to low carb that helped my weight come off so nicely at the beginning.
There MUST be something to the theory that to jump start weight loss, one must shake up the diet. But, I am so afraid of going back to eating bagels and brownies by the truckload that I am not sure I am a good candidate for the reward meal offered in the CAD plan. I wonder if there is another way to go about the shake up without going back to danger foods?

Hi all,
In my journal, Nancy made the following comment:
Your body fat is so low, I can't picture you even being overweight with all the exercise you do.
It got me thinking ... according to the height/weight charts, and the BMI index, I'm not overweight. I'm solidly within the range, well, actually near the top. However, my goal weight is also within the range, and I don't (yet) think that it's unrealistic.
Thinking some more, I thought about why I avoid telling people that I'm trying to lose weight - the typical response is to tell me that I don't need to lose any, and then to offer me something to eat. In other words, people, in general, aren't very supportive. And they're always offering you things you don't want.
It's also easy to get complacent ... and at times the temptation to give up and change my goal is almost overwhelming. I know that losing 10 more pounds isn't going to change my life, or radically affect my appearance, but somehow, right now, giving up would feel like failing. On the other hand, maybe my goal weight is unrealistic for someone who is as old as me (48) and as active as I am- I need to stop comparing myself to the 25-yr olds that I see at the gym! But it is a weight that I maintained for several years in my mid-to-late 30s, so I'm not quite ready to give up on it yet.
Enough of my rambling ... like Twiggy, I'm also trying to think of ways to "shake up" my metabolism ... if the scale doesn't move by Valentines Day, I think that I will do 2 weeks of Induction. Then go back to CAD. I really don't want to go back on Induction, so if anyone has any more palatable ideas, please post them.

Twiggy - When I first tried CALP, it was fine and I felt in control... but then I grew uncomfortable with the wild way in which the scale was fluctuating and with my growing daytime fantasies about which delectible carb I would indulge in that evening! I knew within a short time I didn't have the discipline to keep my RM's balanced. What I did take away from CALP that I personally find useful are the timing issues they focus on. It's a good plan for some people and they do well on it....but for others it's pretty scary....or they end up like me, without very many "rewards" at their reward meal!
If you're interested, you may want to take a look through Natrushka's monster journal.... she had success in shaking things up by following a lower fat, higher carb plan....I think she stuck to the BFL plan (not sure) and did well. She's always tweaking.
Atkins also discusses the Reversal Diet in his first book, but never mentions it again...not even on his website. But there's summaries of it on this board if you do a search for it. It basically talks about going to a complete opposite diet (low-cal, low-fat) for a couple of weeks and then going back on LC to shake things up. Personally, I can't dream of doing that because of my blood sugar issues. And you're nervous about carb triggers.... I don't know. It's a personal decision I guess. The other alternative, of course, is strict induction.... and I'd suggest keeping it lower fat and higher protein as much as possible.
Gotta run........shower time!

This is all getting REALLY interesting, and I think it could be very helpful to all of us.
Like Slimmin, I looked at the BMI chart and found that I'm within the normal range, and I had the exact feelings she's put down here. I'm near the higher end of it, and would like to be more toward the middle; I feel uncomfortable telling people that I'm watching my weight (esp. anyone who is bigger than me); I lately sometimes wonder if I should just be happy where I am... But I really would like very much to drop that extra 10 pounds. As I mentioned before, this isn't even asking to be what I was when I was younger. At my current goal weight, I'd still feel nervous about putting on a bathing suit
Like Teri, I really don't think I want to chance CAD and having the lure of those once a day carbs. I don't think I have enough discipline (anyone doubting this hasn't read about my constant losing battles with wine temptations!). I am wondering if I need to be more careful with the fats. I use a lot of mayo and butter in things, and maybe I am one of those people who needs to watch calories in order to get over this hump.
anyway, enough babbling from me for now. I just really hope we all get there, and it seems like having this particular support group could help a lot. :) so thanks!

I'm curious..... who out of this group is counting their calories and running foods through fitday? And who's winging it?
I am watching closely now as part of my "renewed resolve" .... my goals are <30g carbs a day, calories at 10-12x IDEAL bodyweight, more poultry and less beef. Keep in mind, though, that my calorie needs are much different than ya'll's (yes, that's a word!!) because I have a LOW activity level.

OK, scale is up again today, despite a good day foodwise yesterday. The temptation to chuck the whole thing in can be strong ... I'm sitting here, and I weigh MORE than I did AFTER 2 weeks of eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted it, and it feels that it's not worth denying myself what I want because it isn't making any difference  . - end of whining rant
Teri, for months I entered everything into fitday. And I was consistently burning off more calories than I was eating, and just as consistently, my weight wasn't moving. And, because I was on Atkins, I tracked net carbs, and they were consistently around 25. It drove me crazy. One of the reasons that I like CAD is because I don't need to track anything ... about once a month, I enter my totals in fitday - my calories are about the same as on Atkins, although my carbs are higher.

I've tried fitday a few times, but found it incredibly confusing and difficult to use. Each time though it gave me results that were fine - good amounts of fat, protein and carbs. So I feel as if my "eyeballing" of stuff is pretty close to correct.
Slimmin, boy do i hear you. I keep reminding myself of how much better I feel now than I did before atkins. Thats a pretty powerful incentive beyond the weight. Remember that TOM is hanging around, and that that is not only adding water, but probably coloring your mood, etc.

Slimmin, Oh boy, do I know how you feel. I have a hunch TOM is wrecking havoc. I have the same problem. Been known to gain 5 lbs or more before and during.
On the counting issue:  I found Fitday long before I began LCing when I did a search on a subject called 'pro-ana.' Pro-ana people, mainly girls, are believers that anorexia is a lifestyle choice, not an illness. Many of the pro-ana boards have been removed from the Internet; they are that disturbing and that distructive. All the pro-ana sites recommended Fitday and it makes sense why: Counting everything is part of the illness, according to my LC guru, Dr. Schwarzbein. I have never been anorexic, but I have exhibited borderline bulimia behaviors in the past. I think the only way for me to ever truly concur my eating issue to to manage my health first. For me, that includes a promise to myself to never again count.
I do what Dr. Schwarzbein suggests: I mentally keep a tally of my daily starchy carbs and carbs I get from fruit. Any other daily sums and tallies, including trace carbs in non-starchy foods, calories, fats, are not something I care about. I counted calories since I was a teenager. I counted fat grams during my 20s and 30s. I gained weight throughout! This past year is the first year of my life I have had relief. :)

I feel like the odd-ball out here! I don't know if that is good or bad??? What I do is wing it! I eat all the meat, eggs & cheese I want, usually a salad with lunch and salad and/or veggies for supper. On salads I either have mayo, or I mix caesar salad dressing with a few drops of lemon juice & sprinkle on parmesan cheese. I also put a tablespoon or so of 100% Bran cereal on salads a couple of times a week to get extra fiber & help with that old constipation problem I sometimes get :(
I also drink 2 or 3 cups of coffee & one decaf a day - 1 splenda package & 10% cream in each. Drink LOTS of water too!!!
A few times a week I will add in a 5-10 gram treat. Oh, I also take "nibbles" of Atkins bars if I get hungry between meals (usually go through about 2 bars every 3 weeks).
Seems to be working for me. I've dropped from 172 to 131 since July (need to adjust my stats). Getting close to my goal weight, although I may drop another 5 pounds below that, just to give me a bit of a buffer. :D Do need to start working out more, though - ab muscles are still flabby!

Cheryl, congratulations on your mazing weight loss since summer. You seem to be one of the lucky people who have a consistent and steady weight loss from week to week!
I find that when things are working, there is no temptation to "tweak" the program (why mess with success?). It's when things aren't working that we start to examine everything with a finetoothed comb ... and overanalyse everything!
In my case, that means not drinking diet pop because it might stall me - guess what - I haven't had a diet soda since September, and I'm still stalled! And I never found that it set off cravings. So, I think that I'll start drinking it again.
What else have I tried?
nicotine patches (actually worked and raised my metabolism, I think, but not something that I would want to use on an ongoing basis)
Xenadrine SFX (non-ephedrine) - didn't notice any impact at all
upping my calories and/or carbs - weight stayed the same
cutting down my calories and/or carbs - weight stayed the same
changing from Atkins to CAD - weight has pretty much stayed the same - but I like CAD better, so I'll probably stick with it with maybe the occasional 2 weeks of induction thrown in.
increasing my exercise - weight stayed the same
eating whatever and whenever I wanted for 2 weeks - weight stayed within the same range (not that I expect that that would have lasted forever!)
drinking lots of water / drinking hardly any water - weight stayed the same
eliminating caffeine - weight stayed the same - so after a month, I started drinking real coffee again (but only once/day)
I seem to have Maintenance down cold! I just need to get to the weight that I want to maintain.
I have to admit that I can't remember the last time I took an extended (ie 2-week) break from exercise. I didn't work out as much as usual over Christmas (probably 3-4 times/week instead fo my normal 6). A large part of that is that I am terrified that once I stop, I will lose the motivation to start up again. And I feel so good when I work out.
On the positive side ... I have to say that since I started LCing - especially following CAD (I think that the extra carbs in the evening set me up for my workout the next morning) - I feel better than I ever have. I am pretty much maintaining the 8 pounds that I lost the first 2 weeks of induction (back in July), and despite being up a few more pounds right now, I can still comfortably wear my size 6 pants. Finally, I have broken a couple of really bad habits - having 1-2 glasses of wine almost every night (now pretty much limit it to the weekends) and eating BBQ potato chips (I would inhale a large bag at least 2-3 times a week- haven't had any since last July).

Slimmin- The reason I ask about taking a break....and I know it sounds odd... but I have seen a few folks who work out heavily have quite a whoosh when they take a break....sometimes from an injury or whatever. Way back when I was doing BFL...I was 7 wks into the program with NO loss  but kept plugging away. Then I hurt my back rather badly...was laid up for a couple of weeks. I lost 6# in a month.... my fastest loss ever. About that same time Nat also took a break...maybe between challenges (?)....and experienced a loss. I can't explain it, but there it is. I can certainly understand the fear of never getting back to it! After I hurt my back I never got back into a regular routine either. But most of that was fear of hurting my back again

Wow, Slimmin, putting it down like this really makes you think, doesn't it? all the things that didn't work. The only thing that has worked for me, since induction, was the week I went off cheese and cream. And that was very hard. Maybe if I go a couple more weeks without anything -- I really do need to try that again - at least for a week.
I'd LOVE to fit into a size 6 pair of pants! congrats to you on that.

I'm still frustrated ( up yet another pound today :tears: ), but I'm trying not to let my frustration spiral into an eating free-for-all. (I'm saving that for this weekend!)
I am trying to treat this upward blip, not as a trend that will continue, but as a normal fluctuation. That means avoiding the temptation to start analyzing what I've been eating and doing for exercise ... there may not be a "rational" explanation ... maybe it's TOM (over now), maybe it's stress (part of my life), maybe it's the cold weather (can't control that), maybe it's eating my RMs at night (always have, and lost before), the point is ... I haven't changed what I'm doing on CAD, and up until a couple of weeks ago I was losing - very slowly, but I was losing. I have to have faith that since it worked in the past, that it will work going forward - if I stay with the program!

I realize pounds is what we really want to see reduced but also feel that inches lost is equally important so with that in mind am posting stats on measurements today:
Measurements for beginning of February 2003:
Neck: 12"
Bust: 37"
Waist: 30"
Hips: 37"
Thigh: 20"
Knee: 13"
Upper Arm : 11"
I have never been a fan of water and have to force myself to drink it however the last two days have had a glass of ice water handy sipping away...god knows the bathroom was always a room I frequented beforehand but as Rich so aptly stated in his journal ..sure wish there was an attachment one could carry around with them....B

Waist 28.5
Hips 35.5
Up. Thigh 22
Up. Arm 11.5

Have had those same measurement for a while, even less before I increased my work outs, but I feel good.....

Okay, here are mine:
Height - 5' 6 1/2"
Bust - 36
Waist - 27
Hips - 39 :( - Tiggerlou - I'd kill for your hips!
Can't remember thighs or knees.
My weight went up almost every day last week - so, it's back to induction for me for two weeks. And back to using fitday - I want to make sure that no extra carbs are sneaking in.
I'm going to weigh daily and average weekly (a la CAD), and also stick to the no snacks rule from CAD - but I'm also going to keep my total carbs to less than 20 - so the highlight of my RMs will probably be SF jello with whipped cream!
Wish me luck!

Slimmin: best luck during 2 week induction. I am doing something similar - had scrambled eggs with ham and cheese for breakfast. Will limit my starchy carbs and fruit for the next few weeks.
Measurements.....This is a perfect idea. I am literally afraid of the scale. I don't have one at home and most days I race past the gym scale in fear. :o I plan to take careful measurements later. My usual gauge has been which jeans fit and which jeans are in exile. Today I am wearing size 8 Gap jeans. These are my 'mid-bloated' pair. I have one black pair, size 6, that when they fit, all is well. I won't even take them out of the closet right now because they are newly laundered and I am sure way too stiff and tight. :p

After 2 days of Induction, my weight is back down to 144.5 - so I can legitimately post to this thread because I'm only 9.5 lbs from my goal :p
I'm down 5 lbs in the last 2 days - it's coming off even faster than it went on. I know that most of it is water weight, but I also think that some of the weight that I gained was water, too. I also won't be surprised if I bounce back up a pound or two in the next day or so.
At least I'm motivated to stick with Induction for the full 2 weeks. After that, it's back to CAD, although I plan to gradually increase the carbs at my RM.
I'm also still thinking of adjusting my goal weight up - I haven't made up my mind yet, but I am considering the option. I went so far as to give some of my small dresses away, since they only ever fit when I was below 130.

Hey... so glad I found this one! I'm in this boat too.... getting toward the end of "dieting" and into "hey, this is just the way I eat, MAN." :)
My trick is that I just recently went from not exercising at all (except for walking around in Manhattan with no car and occasionally picking up 8 pound weights) to joining the YMCA and going 3-4 times a week.
So far I've only been gymmin it for a week and a half, but I feel great. Been doing a good amount of weight training and cardio along with a yoga class. Plan to go today actually and do all three of those things.
Anyway, I have some catching up to do with this thread. I was excited about it but don't have time to reply to everything.
I, like probably many of you here, am a bit impatient about the last bits of fat jumping off. I don't particularly care about the scale (which bounces from 137-143 depending on time of day, etc.) but really want to tone my bod and lose another pant size or so.
I pretty much wing eating nowadays, occasionally stopping in to fitday to see how calories and fiber and nutrients are doing, but mostly eating a lot of chicken, eggs, mayo, oils, and veggies along with some treats like Atkins muffins, Keto cereal and pancakes, etc. I haven't really lost much weight since the new year, but feeling great and body's lookin good so I don't care all that much.
Anywho, this is going to be regular stop for me... hope everyone is doing well. :)

Oh, and Cheryl... I have the new Atkins book and find parts of it helpful. Namely the chart that discusses the best food choices (Eat Often, Eat in Moderation, Eat Sparingly) but I'm a little upset that so many of the recipes have low carb bread and other types of substitutes in them. I've never tried low carb bread, can't find it, and it seems to be a big focus of this plan. I never thought of maintenance to include so much bread (even if low carb and soy, etc.) so this through me off a little.
Besides that, it's got some good success stories and tips, though this forum had already drilled most of that info into my head. :)

Hey! I have about 14 pounds left to go. I work out 5-6 times a week (4 x weights, 2x cardio) but there is still a spare tire around my middle! I know you can't spot reduce and I try not to go by the scale too much but when I look in the mirror (shiver). Ok, maybe it isn't THAT bad and I have had two children....
I'm generally pretty realistic about my size. All the height charts (I'm 5'3") say I should weigh like 115-120. RIGHT. I'm thinking 130 is attainable and attractive.
I've read a lot about going low fat when one is nearing goal so my thoughts are to maybe swear off red meat entirely, or at least restrict it to one day or one meal.
The low cal/low fat plan SOUNDS appealing but I'm not sure I'm up for it. I tried the Warrior Diet about a month ago and thought I'd never get out of the bathroom (fruit/veggies all day then whatever at night).
Any words of wisdom, ladies?

Hi everyone  I am checking in. Without e-mail notification of these threads, keeping up has been a chore.
I still haven't measured myself, but I am sure there will come a day when I can bring myself to do it. :p For now, I am going by pant-o-meter only. Still wearing my size 8 Gap jeans, but feeling bloated.
IowaGirl...I went on 'low everything' back last fall to force off my last few pounds. I was so frustrated at being one fat blob away from goal, so I stopped eating my regular LC meals. It worked. I got down as low as 127 and was wearing loose fitting size 6s. What happened was, the minute I went back to my regular LCing, I regained all of it and more. Same old story. My plan now is to remain on LC, enjoy my foods and wait and see. If I somehow ever do get rid of my stomach blob, it will be because it has come off via a sensible, fat-laden, protein rich LC plan. Plus, my husband threatened to divorce me if I ever dare go back to low fat or deprivation of anysort. :p He claims (rightly so!) my mood and demeanor during my deprivation non-lowcarbing days was beyond intolerable.

Hmm, very interesting! I'm back on induction for about 17 days (minus Valentines day, for obvious reasons), and am trying to also cut back some on my fats. I realized that the copious amounts of mayo and butter I was eating every day were adding so many calories that I was bound to be way above the 10-12x amount that we're supposed to aim for. I'm not denying myself these things - just cutting way back (c'mon - a quarter cup of mayo with my burger? UNNECESSARY). We'll see what happens, I guess.
So Iowa, I guess I'll let you know what kind of luck I have with this.

I don't have a lot of progress to tell people about. I have managed to see 142 on the scale (for one day - and have seen 142.5 twice), so things seem to be slowly moving down.
However, my weight does fluctuate significantly on a day-to-day basis (frequent 2-3 lb swings from one day to the next).
I'm on day 11 of a planned 2-week induction - it's actually taking longer than 2 weeks, because I'm only counting the days that I actually eat induction levels of carbs - so it took me 3 tries to complete day 9. With any luck (and no cheats), I'll finish this week and start phasing my way back to CAD.
Thursday, I'm having a fitness evaluation at the gym - weighed, measured, fat calipers, etc. I'm not really interested in changing things up, I just hope for confirmation that I am fit and healthy - and not too heavy! I'm especially curious about my bodyfat %.

I'm at the point of thinking that I'm never going to see the 130s again :( I did see 139 briefly, back in September, but it was a fleeting visit. Recently, I've been within 3 lbs, but I've consistently bounced back up. It's as if I get tired of trying and let the cheats start to creep in.
This time, however, I'm cautiously optimistic - TOM is only a couple of days away, yet my weight, so far, is in the low end of my range. It would be great to see a new low for the year next week. I'm going to try to stick really close to plan for the rest of hte month (except for this Friday - it's my 22nd wedding anniversary, and all bets are off!)

I should really change my stats. 140 is way too low for me. Iam 5'10 and I really want to be anything below 150.
Alittle about myself...about 4 years ago, I start LCing and dropped over 50 pounds. I got to 146-150 and felt fantasic! I was able to keep the weight off until about 6 months ago and I started to put some weight on. Mostly because we moved, and there isn't a gym close by ( 40 miles) and I was use to working out everyday.
Now my weight is up to 160 and I would like to be 145. I am going to change my stats and goal right now.

Way to go, SkinE! A big woo hoo!
I am nearly a week low fat/low cal. Weigh in tomorrow. The interesting thing is that I don't feel as bad as I thought I would. In fact, some people on another thread suggested I try CKD or TKD to break this stall but I have and I felt miserable. Well, on the CKD, anyway. The TKD just didn't promote weight loss. But! I was not planning on going low cal for long so I am back in the ranks of lc as of tomorrow. Unfortunately I will be out of town for 2 days and that is always a challenge!
But I have to tell you guys I bought a weight bench!!!! (last weekend's Kmart ad - $48!) It has a chest press thing and the rollers so you can do leg work - I am so PSYCHED! So, you see, Kelly - going to a gym really isn't necessary. I work out of my home (have small kids at home, not easy to get away - I'm also too cheap to pay gym membership) and I already do a weight routine, aerobics, you name it. (got a chin up bar for my birthday and a medicine ball for Valetine's day - my soon-to-be ex husband must still love me! :D )

I need your opinion. I did the induction for two weeks, and then went on owl. My first week on owl I didn't lose an ounce. My question is, how long do I stay on owl, since I only have 7-8 pounds to go? This sunday will be two weeks on owl. Thanks.
Right now I am trying to keep my carbs at 25. I weigh in Sunday.

Iowagirl,
I was thinking of doing the same thing, get a weight bench. even talked to hubby about it. I really miss going to the gym. It has been over 7 months since I worked out at the gym and I can really tell.
I have a great spot in the basement for a home gym. I have a tv/vcr where I have been doing my aerobic videos.
I would love to get a treadmill and full weight set. Right now, I am trying to do cardio with a workout video and weights with dumb bells.
I like to do "free" workouts. during the fall I was hiking 4-5 miles a day. And in the winter I like to xc ski. This past week was the first time in a few weeks that I could get out and ski. Not because of lack of snow, but because the temp wasn't above 0. I wont got out when it is that cold.
But yesterday and today I was out skiing...1 hour and half of cross country skiing in heavy snow is a heck of a workout.
Even though I am not going to a gym, I am still trying to get a workout. The gym was just very easy for me to get into a routine and stick to it. It was a meeting place with all my friends. And if you didn't show up one day...they would come looking for you! hehe.

Junebug... hard question. I had difficulties adjusting to the changes after induction too. Didn't know quite what to do, etc. My guess is that if you're comfortable at 25g and are anxious to lose the weight, stay there until you've lost a couple more pounds. I didn't go up to 30g until I was sure I could lose at 25, ya know?
Now I'm up to about 40, but also exercising vigorously (weightlifting, cardio, and yoga) so I feel like I really need it. In good ketosis though. Does anyone know if exercise increases the release of ketones? It sure seems like it to me. I'm eating more carbs and in heavier ketosis. Pretty cool. Hope to see some changes soon!

Hi, can I join in here too? I've got between 10 and 4 pounds to go, depending on the swing of the scales (134 - 136) and what I decide my goal weight is (either 130 or 126, probably 126, ie 9 stone). So realistically, 8 -10 pounds to go.
Like some other people here, I'm struggling to get motivated to shift the last bit. I look ok-ish, but could look neater, I've slacked off, added in wine, cream etc. and stopped the exercise over the winter (too cold and dark).
I really need to get 'serious' again, but am suffering from 'next week' syndrome.
Anyway, I've just been on holiday with my DH and we did quite a bit of hiking, so that's given me a kickstart with the exercise that I just need to keep going now...........

Hi Guys:
I just found this thread through Angela. Thanks Angela!
I have a strange history. I never started LCing to lose weight. I was already at my goal weight, although I have had to watch my weight ever since I turned 20, when I weighed 145 lbs. I started LCing b/c of hypoglycemia. I had a huge sugar addiction and ever since giving up sugar, I've had swings of bingeing that would cause me to gain 10 pounds in a short period of time. I've been yo-yoing up and down 10 pounds for the last year.
So my current goals (since the New Year) aren't as focused on losing weight so much as to control the sugar addiction that causes me to gain weight. If I control that, I control the weight. I've been averaging a loss of about 1/2 pound a week, if that. This is the slowest it's ever been for me. I think I actually lose weight quicker on a low-fat diet, but the ramifications are horrible. There are too many benefits to LC to ever go back to low fat.
So I'm officially checking in!
Measurements:
Chest - 34.5" (Hey, I could swear I wear a 36B?)
Waist - 27"
Hips - 34.25"
Thighs - 21.5" with lots of cellulite
Oh, I'm also very small-boned.

I am starting BFL. I am hoping with the increase exercise and toning, I will be able to drop a few pounds. Or at least fit into my jeans.
Last spring I was a happy size 12...meaning I could slip into any pair of size 12 jeans I had in closet. Now I am still in those jeans..just a heck of alot tighter.
Maybe it isn't the scale I am fighting with, but the jeans! at this point I don't care (well..maybe a little) about the scale. I just want to be back to my happy 12's again. at my lowest point I was even in a 10!

Hi gang,
Can I come play in your sandbox, too?
Nice to know there are so many others in the same boat as me, working on those last 10-15 pounds.
I'm feeling much better about myself, but still really want to get to my goal weight. It's SOOOO slow-going. Arrgh.
Lately, however, I've decided to focus more on the PROCESS than on the DESTINATION. This has helped me stop obsessing so much and enjoy this new way of life.
I'll be back to play again soon. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thought I'd join in the measurement posting game since I recorded them today... unfortunately I lost some of my old measurements, but I have seen a change in my waist and hips since starting Atkins definitely!
Start of Atkins: (10/02/02)
Weight- 160
Bust- 38
Waist- 33
Hips- 42
Today: (02/22/03)
Weight- 140
Bust- 36
Waist- 27
Hips- 37
Thigh- 21.5
Arm- 12
Wow... those look pretty good, especially compared to the start!
and Wanda... maybe you're a 34B now? You figure bra size by measuring ribcage...adding 5 to that number for the number. Then cup size by how much above that number your bust is. 1 inch= A, 2 inch= B, etc.
So a 34B would be about a 29 ribcage and a 36 bust. Perhaps?
Speaking of which, MAN, my boobs are getting smaller. My 34D bras are starting to get laughable! And according to my measurements, I should be wearing a B! Oh my god! I haven't worn a B since I was 12, seriously.
So shucks... forget about my savings account... I need to invest in new pants AND new bras. Aw man. :)

Hey, Angela. To quote my favorite singer, "I don't think I like this game no more"! :D  Okay, my ribcage is 30", my bust is 34.5". By the above formula, (Ribcage + 5 = 35) I'm, like, a negative cup size? Boy I thought my days in an "Almost a B" bra were bad. ;)

I lost my boobs a long time ago. After breestfeeding the twins, and then losing over 50 pounds...they are GONE! I was bigger when I was 12 years old.
Now that I put on a few pounds...it didn't go to my boobs, but to my hips. I will never see a B again!
Still struggling...the scale won't budge ..still 160.

So in the name of posting small goals (I'll measure tonight) I will set a goal for myself to:
• Lose 2 pounds this week
• Walk 3 days
• Drink 100 oz water each day
• Log my food everyday, accurately
Sunday I was at 128.5. Sunday was officially my day 14 of induction as well. I lost 6.5 pounds during those 2 weeks.
Great site. I'm glad there are some others who are struggling with those last 10.

Keep up that water and exercise, no matter what, those are good for ya.

Angela - my bras are getting kinda big too. My dh is not happy that my boobs are shrinking! LOL! I am though. I know that I shouldn't set a goal to lose 2 pounds this week but its really more of a mental thing for me to keep me focused everyday. Mardi Gras is this weekend and we have some free passes to go. We
re NOT but I need to stay focused so that I don't get a wild hair and take off and go, and blow this whole thing! :o)

I am leaving on vacation tomorrow! Nine days in florida. I know eating is going to be a problem for me. The good news, we are staying at my parents house so I will be able to do alot of cooking myself.
I am looking forward to getting out in the warm air adn sunshine. It is going to feel good to move around! I will be walking, running and playing tennis as much as possible. Hopefully, I will be exercising more and if I eat more than usually, it should balance out.
My only advise, which I am going to try to do on vacation is plan out each meal. Don't go blindly into he day without some what of an idea what you are going to eat. I find if I plan the day, plan what I am going to eat and when I am going to workout, I actually do it.

Calling all ten-pounders!!
Where are you guys? :)
I've been doing well... watching all my food, eating 5-6 meals a day, and starting Body for Life. Here's my newest goal: Not to step on the scale until April 1st. I haven't been losing any weight, but I just KNOW I've been gaining muscle so I need to stop stepping on that thing. Any ten-pounders with me? I would feel like a couple pounds was a HUGE accomplishment if I noticed it after not knowing for a month!
Hope to be a solid 138lbs on April 1st!
So I've been toying around with Body for Life, but I really think I need to buckle down and just DO it. I really love the workouts, my only issue is the time. So I'm just gonna make time.
I did an upper body Monday and I'm planning cardio today, lower body tomorrow, then cardio, then upper, than cardio, then a day of rest on Sunday. Also gonna take a yoga class and a Pilates class.
Am I crazy? Nope. Going to the gym is quite rewarding for me and doesn't feel much like work. Hope to be a very comfy size 8 (possibly a six?! ) very soon.
Wish me luck!

OK, here's my goal for April 1 - to get at least see 139 once.

If necessary, I'll be joining Kiwi back on induction next week.

Well, my friends, the celebration has begun! :cheer:
Honestly, I still have 2 pounds to goal weight (172/127/125), but hubby and I have already started celebrating!
I've been low-carbing since July 2002. Hubby is so proud of me. He tried to get me a 1 hour massage at a local Spa last Saturday, but they were fully booked, so it was scheduled for today. Last Saturday I got a "Skinny Shopping Spree" - went to consignment stores so I could get a LOT for a Little (literally - giggle).
Friday I took two of my work friends out for lunch - bought each of them a pink rose to celebrate their friendship & support along my low-carb journey (also gave them each a pink glass rose as a keepsake of our friendship).
Today's schedule: 9:30 - hair cut; 11:00 - 1 hour Swedish-style massage.
Monday I have an appointment with my family doctor, just to have more bloodwork done & review my dieting results (last bloodwork was done in November).
Tuesday I am taking another co-worker out to lunch - she was the first to say something about noticing my weight loss (didn't tell anyone but hubby in the beginning, because I honestly didn't think I had the willpower to stick with it & I didn't want to be ridiculed). She has offered me exercise tips & has been a real encourager, both with exercise advise & with making comments about how good I look. Other than my wonderful husband, she has been my best encourager - she is blunt with her comments, which is what I need, so she has really kept me in line.
Well, a whole lot of bragging has been going on here, but I am happy I found "Dr. Atkins" and thrilled to say IT WORKED!!!!!:D

Hi Cheryl:
That is awesome news! Good for you, you deserve all those rewards.
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
So now the question is "how will you maintain your weight"? For instance, some can indulge every so often and then cut back on carbs for a few days. Others can never indulge. Which camp do you fall in? I fall in the "I can never indulge camp". That's what got me in this mess.
What will your ACE (Atkins' Carb Equilibrium) be? Atkins' says most fall around 60 ECC. That would be cool. I don't think I'll ever see that though.
For me, maintenance is the most difficult part. But this time 'round I'm armed. I think this forum will be a great support. Nothing like making your failures public to keep one in line! :D
Cheryl, I hope you'll stick around! It'd be nice to have some "maintainers" around to share words of wisdom.

124 for me this morning, that's 2 pounds down last week, an a total of 10 pounds for me since I began Atkins.
I think I will read futhur in the book and see what maintenance looks like. I have just been doing Induction since the beginning with adding 5-7 more carbs back in slowly in the form of veggies. I am 6 pounds from goal and i guess I need to see what to do when the blessed day comes that I hit goal!

Bomen--How long have you been doing Atkins? I've been on induction for almost a month and have only lost 3lbs. I did the fatfast last week for 3 days and lost 2 1/2 pounds (for a total loss of about 5) but I see today I've gained them back (after going back a little above Induction levels over the weekend). WWAAAA! Is fatfast the only way I can lose weight? I am 5'1" and it seems the only way for me to lose weight is to restrict my calories to about 1200. This amount of cals doesn't leave my starving but I'm definetly hungary. I enjoy this WOL and wouldn't ordinarily care how long it took but I was hoping to lose 10lbs of my weight w/ in 2 months. Is that so unreasonable???

Bomen, thank you for asking!
Actually, I will post yesterdays (since sometimes I don't eat what I have planned or I have more)
Yesterday-
Bkfst: 2 sf strips bacon -1-
*coffee -1-, cream -1-, splenda -1-
lunch: 3oz pate -3-
2 cups salad -2- TB cream cheese -1-
snack: egg salad (about 1 1/2 eggs and heaping TB mayo)
snack: 10 spicy pork rinds dipped in ff sour cream
dinner: artichoke w/ butter & italian spices, 3 strips of chicken
snack: 15 pork rinds w/ 1pkt Splenda, tsp cinnamon & TB sf syrup
1/2 oz ff cheddar cheese
also had 1/2 diet soda
2 things I need to tell you: First, yesterday was the last day of coffee for me. I could go on and on about why I think that will help but I'm sure you already know ;)
Additionally, yesterday was an example of a bad day for me- I ate wayyy more than I intended and there are two reasons why (other than lack of will power): First I was tired and second I had a stomach ache. My stomach does sometimes hurt and I think my body's response is to want me to eat (since the pain feels like hunger pains and my body thinks this will sooth it). I took some Pepcid AC since it was hurting today, too, so hopefully that will help.
This would be a more typical day for me (and its what I intended to eat yesterday):
Bkfst: 2 strips bacon -1-
coffee -1-, cream -1-, splenda -1-
lunch: 3oz pate -3-
2 cups salad -2- TB cream cheese -1-
snack: egg salad -2-
dinner: 4oz beefchuck cooked in Olive oil-2-

Reese - i think you need more protein. For instance with your lunch salad, could you add in a chicken breast or some sliced up left over steak?
for a snack could you cut up some chicken and dip it in ranch dressing, or have pepperoni, or maybe have a can/bag of tuna, albocore or salmon.
I like to take sandwich meat (be careful in your selection) and put cream cheese or mayo on it, lightly, then roll it up and have it for a snack too.
I looks like there is too much fat and not enough protein. I can't remember the ratios you are suppose to have but i know its more than what you are eating.
And where are your veggie carbs? These are VERY important in the processing of you foods.
Here's mine:
Breakfast - 3 slices bacon, 2 cups decaf hazelnut coffee, 1 liter (not sure of the oz's) water
Lunch - 4oz grilled chicken breast and 1 cup weed salad, balsamic dressing, moz cheese
Snack - Tazo decaf green tea - Zen with Spenda, maybe something else - 1 oz peanuts or macadamian nuts, or sanwich meat roll with cream cheese
Dinner - 4 oz grilled ribeye steak marinated in Leon Perrie, with sauteed in butter mushrooms and a very few onions on top, with 1 cup italian green beans
No dessert - gotta break this habit again, its crept back up in the form of sf jello and whipped cream; may just have a cup of hot tea

Here's my suggestions to your standard menu:
Bkfst: 2 strips bacon -1-
coffee -1-,
cream -1-,
splenda -1-
CHECK YOUR BACON'S INGREDIENTS AND SEE IF SUGAR WAS USED I NTHE CURING PROCESS. MINE HAS 0 CARBS AND 0 SUGAR BUT HAD SUGAR AS AN INGREDIENT.
lunch: 3oz pate -3-
2 cups salad -2-
TB cream cheese -1-
ADD IN 4-5 OZ DICED TURKEY BREAST SANDWICH MEAT INSTEAD (lower sodium), TUNA, CHICKEN, LEFT OVER STEAK PLUS SOME BACO'S MAYBE.
snack: A PROTEIN AND A FAT, MAYBE EVEN A SMALL SERVING OF VEGGIES -
CHICKEN BREAST, DIPPED IN CHIVE SOURCREAM, 2-3 SMALL PIECES OF BROCCOLI TP DIP AS WELL
dinner: 4oz beefchuck cooked in Olive oil-2-
PICK A LEAN PROTIEN AND A VEGGIE, PLUS ANOTHE SERVING OF SALAD.
yellow squash with butter, and a small .5 to 1 cup salad with ranch dressing
AFTER DINNER SNACK - HOW ABOUT THOSE PORK RHINES NOW? OR MAYBE A HOT CUP OF TEA WITH A DROP OR 2 OF CREAM
just suggestions, I typed my suggestions in caps so that you could see them better. Hope this helps.

yes, thank you for giving me concrete advice. I printed your suggestions so that I can keep them w/ my notebook/journal. The whole too much fat thing confuses me bc in DANDR he suggests cutting calories and adding fat (re fatfast he says "If this works then any change in that direction may help"). BUT it seems in practice, most people suggest more lean meat.
I think what you suggest sounds healthier and I'm going to try it :)
One more question, Why the tea? Do you have a kind that you like? Also, (sorry, more than 1 question), do you ever count calories? Do you think I should (since I could eat all day) ? Do you try to keep yourself a little hungry?
Thank you! :wiggle:

Reese -
"One more question, Why the tea? Do you have a kind that you like?" I like the Tazo brand, and I like green teas, Zen is my favorite. It helps with constipation and is just good for you.
"Also, (sorry, more than 1 question), do you ever count calories? Do you think I should (since I could eat all day) ?" I do count my calories and I try for 1400-1800 a day (I am 5'1"). I keep up with them so that I don't go whacko and eat 3500 calories in one day. I could easily do that.
"Do you try to keep yourself a little hungry?" No, I eat till I am full but when I feel true hunger I snack on something if its not meal time. If I find myself feeling hungry I down some water quickly, like 16 oz all at one time. It seems to fill me up and subsides the hunger some.
You can do this. Just make small changes in your diet and I bet it will show big time. You just have a few more pounds to go too, like me.

Any room for one more in this countdown? I've just joined the forum because I'm stuck trying to get those stubborn last pounds off! I was at 121/122 for three months, but Valentine's Day hit hard - pounds of chocolate!
Now we're officially two months away from bikini season here (and entertaining season - oh, my!) and I really want to get the last 6 1/2 pounds off for good!
Have been tracking food faithfully all week and cut alcohol out for a little while to see if I could jump-start some weight loss. I feel 'trimmer' but the scale says otherwise. I've been at 124.5 / 125 for four weeks straight now, and would love to nudge that scale! Any tips? I've also gotten back to exercising . . . about time! Trying to firm up is impossible without it!
I'm working my way through the new Low Carb Comfort Food book, too - hopefully that helps a little!
Thanks!

Hi all!
I too am down to under 10 pounds to go to goal. It's always such a struggle isn't it?!! I have time so I will just keep at it. The weather is finally getting nicer so I will be getting out more and doing some hiking. That I am sure will help speed up the process. I am been such a slug all winter. Well, except for having to dig out from all the snow this year.
Looking forward to meeting you all and giving each other support.

Welcome, new 10-pounders! Yes, Kaki, let's hope springtime brings a universal whoosh to the board. Maybe the winter hibernation metabolism has stopped a lot of us up. ;)
Hang in there.. these last poundies are stupid. My strategy is to pay very little attention to the scale and more to measurements and sizes. I haven't lost any weight really in the past few months, but have dropped a pants size, so that'll show you.
Anyway, good luck to you all! :)

You're so right, Angela - I would be awfully happy to just waltz into size 6s that it wouldn't matter if the scale said I shouldn't be!! Big shopping weekend planned in May, so that's the goal!

Finally I can join this thread! It feels like I was stuck at around 131.5 for forever. But this week I started eating more (I had been exercising more lately) and dropped that 1.5 lb like that. Now I'm 10 pounds to goal too!! --Sarah

I was gone from home over the weekend and now I am out of ketosis.
My plan is to go back on induction for a couple of weeks and see if that helps. Has anyone experienced this?
Also, warning: I learned the hard way when it came to alcohol.
On Saturday I had hardly anything to eat, except a few nuts, cheese, fruit. I got sooooooooo sick after having one too many drinks. I have never been so sick in my life. Be careful.

Good for you Sara!!!! I wish the last 10 pounds would come off as fast at the first :D
Junebug: I know exactly what you mean about drinking. I had a couple of glasses of wine the other night and I don't remember going to bed!! Alcohol just goes right to my head now and I feel awful in the morning. Well, I guess it's a good thing. We don't need the empty calories of alcohol anyhow ;)

How is everyone doing this week? I am down 2 pounds. 5 more to go before I can move the large weight on my scale. Ugh, I just can't wait but I know it will probably be a slow process from now on.
It's been raining here all week and it's so depressing!! It would be very easy to slip into some of those sugary comfort foods :D but I am holding ground!! They promise sun this weekend. I sure hope so. The time change and doom and gloom weather is really getting to me.
Well, I am off to start my day. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Kaki, thanks for the welcome and encouragement! It took me 2 months to lose the first 10 lb and I'd be very happy to lose the last 10 that fast :) The closer I get, the more my weight bounces around. I don't even post a loss here anymore until I've kept it off for a couple of days. I'm in NC and it's been dark, cold and rainy here too all week long. What a bummer! I hope the sun does come out this weekend.

Hi there! Haven't had time to read the whole thread yet.. just the first couple pages and this last page. I'm in the 10 lber club, and have been for about a year.. last summer I was 150 and had about 10 lbs to go, I gained about 14 pounds this winter, all fat (shock!) and wonder how on earth I could have done that - knowing what I do about nutrition. (I was very sick most of it and could not exercise) This spring started with the trusty weights again, put on some muscle... now I am 160 and from the mirror guess that there is about 10 lbs left before being satisfied. <smile> The cool thing is that I've started bellydance, so my image of what my midriff should look like has changed - from "cut" to smooth and feminine, yet strong, (it's ok if it's soft!) which is good because 90% of my fat is right RIGHT on my belly and upperhips, so even when I'm lean there is no way I will have a hard stomach without being emaciated.
take care!

Nice to be here, where everyone understands how stubborn these last pounds are! When I lost 35 lbs. years ago on the Zone, I swear they just dropped right off, but these...! After two weeks on induction, I lost a pound, and I knew to be happy about this result  since, it's such a tough thing for me.
I've been 'dieting' since before Christmas, working out like CRAZY, but to no avail. So this one pound is like a happy omen! Anyway, I would absolutely adore it, and be totally THRILLED if I could get to my goal by, say July. It seems like there is the kind of support here that might actually help me get there! I've just read this thread from beginning to end and it's been great to see the progress!
So, yes, induction is over, and only one pound has disappeared, but I stopped working out for the past two weeks due to the dizziness I was experiencing from withdrawal. I'm back at it today with a vengeance - and with much inspiration from Skamito!
I'm also inspired to go buy a tape measure! I'm 133 (unless I gained the second week on induction), 5'8, small-boned, and pretty jiggly. :spin:
I don't put on much muscle weight when I'm lifting... I was 127 a couple of years ago, for about a year, and it was a great weight for me (still filled out my bra, but didn't come out over the tops of my pants!)
I'm looking forward to progressing along with the other ten-pound-club members!

Me? OH NO?! And just when I've been so overwhelmed that I've neglected working out. ;) Happy for you to join us. I've been sittin pretty in the 10 pound club for a loooong time now. Ah well. I almost want to adjust my goal weight until I realize, HEY, I still have plenty of body fat to lose to get a nice toned physique. Why pretend I'm not still working? I'm not gonna lazy out of getting fit for REAL.
Anyway, hope those 3-10 pounds we all have to shed are happy ones. :D Though they can be stubborn, it is nice that each of us has gotten this far. Keep up the good work and we should all hang out in the maintenance club soon! :)

Well, my second induction went quite well. I think I lost almost 4 pounds on it. I will now go back on to owl. Although, I think I will lay off the alcohol until I reach my goal weight. I found it really stalled me even though I only had it a couple times a week. My husband's birthday dinner was Friday, and I didn't know how I would do. He requested fried fish with beer batter, homeade french fries, famous dave's coleslaw (homeade), cherry cobbler with homeade vanilla ice cream. While I was preparing the food I didn't know what I was going to eat. Let's just say I was tempted. I drank ton's of water that evening. I ended up eating a piece of fish (took the breading off) and then I sauted some shrimp and made a scampi. For my dessert I poured myself an
Atkin's Vanilla shake. Before bed I weighed myself- 150.2.
The next morning I weighed in at 143.8. I told you I drank ALOT
of water!! :)
Very happy!!

Well, I am getting closer to my goal weight. I am thinking of lowering it down to 135. The range I want to stay at will be 135-139. I went shopping and was trying on some capris, size 12 fit great, and I could even get on a size 10, but they were tight!!
Finally, I am seeing some results. Unfortunately, I never did measure myself when I first started. This week I have added nuts back into my diet. I have enjoyed flax with nuts for breakfast with a little davinci syrup and soymilk. Quick and tasty.
How is everyone doing?

I was directed to this thread from another one and I am so glad to have found it. Since my last 10 lbs. is pretty much my first ten pounds, my entire weight loss experience has been pretty frustrating. In the past, the only way I have lost weight is with vigorous exercise, which I restarted in earnest about a week ago. Scale is moving sloooowly, but measurements are changing, thank goodness.
I don't really care if LC eating doesn't contribute to the weight loss. This is the first time in my life that I have not been famished all the time! I could seriously eat another full meal 20 minutes after finishing one before I went LC. I would do absolutely crazy things like eat a tub of frosting! The best thing to me, though, is that 7 1/2 years of suffering with IBS are over for me. I have been to doctor upon doctor, and even the really strong, spacey drugs could not get rid of my IBS. LC took effect immediately. I have not had one of my IBS pills since I started !
Thanks for all the support. It is great to have a forum like this.
Cheers,
-Beverly

I am wondering what you all do about posting losses in your profile. Now that I'm close to goal, my weight seems to bounce up and down more than it used to. I hesitate to post a loss until I'm sure it's going to stick, because if I'm back up the next day but people are congratulating me, I feel like a liar. What do you all do? Do you post as soon as you see the loss or do you wait?
(I know the healthiest approach would be not to care about the scale at all, but I'm not there yet!)

Sarah:
I know what you mean but from my experience, I tend to post when it happens. My weight fluctuates terribly from time to time...especially when it's that time of the month. I could be 128 on Monday morning, not do anything or eat anything out of the ordinary all day and wake up Tuesday morning and be 132!
I think that the 128 is my actual weight since the following week, (after my visitor has gone), I'm back to that.
I think just because we're women and have to put up with that crap once/month, we shouldn't be penalized for it! lol
You know how hard to strive and what you do to lose the weight. When the scale says you have - embrace it!!!

If you see the number more than once on your scale, and it isn't immediately after a terrible stomach flu...well, get that number into your stats!
As far as not caring what the scale says - or not looking, more like it...that is what causes me to put on weight every fall. Never again will I take my weight for granted! I'm going to check weekly no matter what from now on. My mother in law has always done this, and, as a result, only weighs about 10 lbs more than she did thirty years ago. Whenever she sees the number beginning to creep up, she does something about it, with the result that she never goes on a diet! Lucky her!
