The drugstore remedies work well.

None of the alternative remedies are any safer, and a couple
of them are highly caustic.

Firstly, get a proper diagnosis.

Secondly, all of the following can be useful:

Podophyllin Aspirin (applied topically, not orally) Freezing
Burning Silver nitrate Surgery

A lot of GPs carry liquid nitrogen freezing equipment.

Tsu Dho Nimh is correct. However, I would make darn sure
that it is really a wart not something else, like a
precancerous lesion.

All the best,

How do you know it's a wart? A shoulder is a weird place for a
wart, but not a lesion, mole, skin tag, etc. Warts are caused
by papilloma viruses and usually are on the hands and feet.
Have a doctor look at it. If necessary, it should be biopsied.

If you expose your shoulders to the sun at all (most men go
shirtless at some point in their lives) then I would be
DOUBLY sure it's a wart. You don't want to be messing with
a melanoma.

Good luck.

Salicylic acid is available as a wart remover in drugstores
and Walmart. It works really well.

I have erasers ranging from the things you get in a propelling
pencil (3mm across and 1cm long) to cuboidal art gum erasers
2cm square in cross-section and 10cm long. If what you've got
is shaped like either, and particularly the latter, you don't
need a removal treatment, you need a medical photographer to
put you in a textbook.

I suggest you go to your Doctor and he could suggest any
treatments. You may need to get it checked out by a
dermatologist.

Several times, I've successfully used the following:

Put a drop of real Vitamin A on the wart. Cover with a
band-aid. Repeat when the band-aid falls off. The wart will
gradually recede.

Found this as one of several remedies in a book by a doctor.

Works well for what? Certainly not wart removal! Okay, maybe
that was just my personal experience.

Go to your doctor. Liquid nitrogen is painful, but works. It's
more successful than salicylic acid and no more painful.

I've heard that bee venom works! Let a bee sting you right in
the middle of the wart. since the venom disolves the skin, it
kills the wart. In theory, it makes sense, but liquid nitrogen
(i.e., freezing) carries less risk, so I wouldn't try it....

Since salicylic acid costs $2.50 at Walmart, it makes a lot of
sense to give it a try before blowing a bunch of money at the
doctors office.

It completely removed 2 of the 3 warts I used it on, and
fairly quickly. I was very pleased. The other one is quite
small, almost unnoticeable, except that I know where it is.
When it gets a little bigger, I'll try the acid again.

I've also heard that mashed garlic, applied as a poultice
works for wart removal. Haven't had an opportunity to try it.

Hi, I have successfully used the following treatment - Place a
"Pinch" of Bicarbonate of Soda in the palm of your hand, put a
drop or two of Castor Oil on it to make a paste, place this
paste on one (only) of the warts/verrucas, cover with a
dressing, do this each night before you go to bed, it then has
8 hours or so to do its job, repeat for a few weeks until the
wart/verruca disappears - no burns or mess. It works 12 times
out of 10! If it does resct, skip a night or two of treatment.
I am a chiropodist, and my clients swear by it when they use
it on verrucas! The usual proviso applies - always consult
your doctor for medical problems! Seek his advice before you
try this!!!!!!!! My doctor goes back to his tribe every night,
God Bless him!

I had 4 small plant warts next to each other. I went to the
dermatologist and got two applications of liquid nitrogen for
plantar warts (one week apart). It cost a bundle of money,
hurt like hell, couldn't walk for one day, took time to heal,
and *it didn't work*! I still had the 4 warts after the skin
healed. Never again. I then tried off-the-shelf salicylic
acid. 3 have been removed and I'm working on the last one.
Cost less than $10, there is no pain, but it's taking a
loooong time.

And elderly patient of mine recently had 3 warts (pretty damn
big ones) removed from his back with liquid nitrogen & I was
under the impression when he went to the dermatologist that
would be the end of 'em. Instead he comes back with orders to
have Aldara cream (not what I would've expected for warts
*there*) applied daily with dressings applied afterward. It's
been almost 2 weeks & the things don't look so hot -- still
draining, not much in the way of healthy new tissue evident.
[We even contacted his doc, who said to continue with the
Aldara anyway until the next appt.] He has an appt. for
follow-up on Tuesday, so hopefully they'll change the
treatment to something more effective.

Apply it once and it removes warts from both sides at
once. Must burn one helluva hole on its way through to the
other side.

There are two strengths of Salicylic Acid........ one is for
warts, doesn't do much, and costs more. The other is for corns
and calluses for the feet, is called Freezone, and stronger
and more effective - and is much less expensive. Still will
take about 2 weeks of application, but will work. Dead skin
comes off layer by layer and you just keep applying it until
the warts are gone.

Fourscore and twenty when I was kid I had two ugly warts on
my hand. Some old duffer suggested I try milkweed. I
figured what the hell, it's a free weed and grows just
about anyplace. In about two weeks the warts were gone.
Whether it was coincidental or planet alignment I don't
know but they went away. For all I know salicylic acid et
al are made from milkweed.

Similar to Doug's experience I used the milk from dandelion
root with complete success for 4 warts nitrogen had failed
to remove.
