I'm looking at purchasing a home cardio exercise machine. I'm
thinking about getting the portable elliptical trainer from
sharper image. Anyone know anything about it?
Also, I'm thinking about getting tony little's gazelle. I've
read a number of good reviews on the net about it.
by the way, I don't want to spend the $1,000+ for a club
quality machine. I also work a strange schedule - so I need
something that's low-impact at home.
Thanks for the thoughts! -hq

It's important to understand that the Club Quality machines
are $5,000 +. The reason I suggest that is important, is that
if you understand that the home units range from $500 to
$4000, you begin to understand that the products in the lowest
price catagory are extremely low quality. (Note: In a message
above, Music Max bought a low end treadmill, and it's not
working properly immediately after he bought it). Keep an eye
on this Newsboard, and you will see repeated issues like this.
Carefull with the Gazelle. There are thousands of reports of
people hurting their Knees on these.
The only Ellipticals I would consider buying for myself (and I
have) are the Precor and LifeFitness. However, some folks like
the Vision, Johnson, Kettler, Universal. Good luck !!

I am leaning towards the elliptical trainer from sharper
image. I do a lot of traveling and I would like to get a unit
that is somewhat portable...That's why I'm looking for a
review of it.
Where did you find the reports of folks hurting their knees on
the gazelle? I've done a newsgroup search and didn't find
anything about knees damage.

First off the Sharper Image unit that they are calling an
elliptical trainer, is anything but. The motion on that and
the Tony Little Gazelle are the same thing. You swing your
legs back and forth. NOT in an elliptical motion. If you want
to strengthen your hip flexors they are ok. But forget the
horrible motion for one minute. Do you honestly believe a
machine that is selling for $169 is really any good? I mean
come on an office chair from Office depot is $100. Go look at
the quality.
