Default "Sugar Coated" Documentary

Has anyone seen this? I have not seen any threads on it but I certainly could have miss one or two. It's now on Netflix and is a REALLY good watch!

http://sugarcoateddoc.com/

EDIT: netflix link http://www.netflix.com/title/80100595

Taubes is in it and some guy I had not heard of before named Robert H. Lustig, MD. I'm not well versed in LC stuff so he might be common knowledge to you all.

Robert is on a Mission!

I am grateful to the new knowledge I have gained in the last 8 months, Sugar Free 4 Me!

If you go to DietDoctor.com you'll find a number of movies (documentary), interviews, conference presentations, etc. featuring all the big names (ironic that!) in the Low-carbohydrate advocacy universe. Lustig is right up there.

Dr. Fung's recent book The Obesity Code takes a quite broad view, pointing out the multifactorial causes of obesity and other chronic diseases. So it isn't just sugar, just carbs, just calories, or just anything for everybody alike.

And even practitioners since Atkins 1972 learn new stuff every day. Welcome to the journey.

You need to watch "Sugar - The Bitter Truth" on youtube. 6 million views. Then you will know who Dr. Robert Lustig is.

Thanks for the link, BTW. Watching it now.

Good movie, loved it last night!!
It's definitely a must watch movie and it explained so much about how 'Big Sugar' bought their influential expert to back them up and negate the truth all of these years.
Remember SnackWells? I always wondered why those low-fat, high-sugar things didn't work and they tasted so bad but they were promoted so well.

They were like eating nothing, and before you knew it, the box was gone but it was okay! They were LOW FAT!

Exactly Werebear!
I think Weight Watchers was pushing those and all of the Fat Free/high sugar Yoghurts that they had everyone eating every morning. Nothing like a nice sugar charge every morning

And sugar promotes the growth of bad gut bacteria, cancelling out any effect the probiotics might have had, assuming the yogurt wasn't pasteurized to kill the bacteria.

Entenmann's used to have (maybe still does) a low-fat pastry. I bought it for my husband, who liked them, but I thought they were horrible. They tasted like coconut to me, but there was no coconut in the ingredient list.

I started buying them after my husband's heart surgery. The nutritionist at the clinic said we really needed to have low-fat foods. She had us watch a movie that likened all fats to the kind of grease that clogs water pipes. Back then, there was no way to research the issue without being able to read technical stuff.

I averaged 25 grams of fat a day: pasta with low fat tomato sauce, salad with no-fat dressing, a river of rice cakes. And 45 minutes of cardio a day to try and burn it all up.

It seems like lunacy to me now.

Those rice cakes were like eating thick cardboard. Can you believe that they actually had us eating them They tasted so bad surely they must have been good for us.
Pasta, When I was in my 30s after having a baby, I remember my mother saying that pasta was fattening but Weight Watchers said no. We would go back and forth with pizza crust also. She knew, I didn't.

I felt virtuous eating those things! But they didn't help me lose weight. I suppose they still sell them; I wouldn't know, it's not a grocery aisle I go down any more.

Same here, only the outer parts of the store have the real food.
It's been 2 1/2 years since I haven't been down those isles

Rice cakes are not bad tasting if covered with 1/4 inch of butter and a smear of Marmite!!

But that is only because you cannot taste the rice cakes!!
