Hey Y'all,
(This is a repost from my journal, I still need to get caught up on my reading.) I won't rejoin the game until the next game, so I will have a truer number to start with.
I'm Baaaaaaaccccccckkkkk!!!!! lol Two weeks gone, no scale on the ship, no meter because I forgot to pack it...gain of 3 lbs (probably most of that because of my head, explanation below) and fbs reading 83!
I didn't get to go to my family Thanksgiving Wed. and Thurs, have been very sick with a cold. Running a slight fever, around 100, head feels like it weighs 500 lbs, chest feels like an elephant sitting on it, and I had no voice until late yesterday. My sister, in Texas, whole family, had been sick over the weekend, and although she lysoled everything, and everyone felt better, I guess I picked it up from one of them.
For Thanksgiving I made me an egg salad, with real bacon, crumbled up, and lettuce. Hubby brought back some Turkey for me, and I had some mayo, and lettuce with it...heavily peppered and rolled up.
I consider it an NSV. Although I ate low carb pretty much the whole trip (2 exceptions; a very special chocolate dessert, designed by a world famous chocolatier (sp?). I only ate 3 bites, and I had 2 martini's (never had before, so for the experience I drank them,...Skyfall (not sweet, very dry, very pretty) and Tropicini (sweet and good, but only had one).
I ate a lot more frequently than I usually do ( we ate when my sister and brother-in-law ate), ate bigger portions (food all the time, everywhere), and ate more fruit. NO other sugar except for what is naturally found in berries, honey dew, cantaloupe, 1 pear, and watermelon. (I also tried prickly pear fruit, just because I had never had it before...delicious). Artificial sugar that was in the sf jello, ice cream, and pudding (all of which I ate only 3 times while on ship). No flour, or grains of any type, though there were soooo many pies, cookies, brownies, cakes, donuts etc, etc, etc.
I did try a few things I have wanted to try...lobster, for the 2nd and last time. Just don't like it. Crab legs...too much work. Lamb and veal...yuck on both. Beef Wellington...after you remove the bread outside, taste just like a regular roast. Smoked salmon...ugh. Since there is such a variety of foods from all over the world, I used it as a chance to try the foods, as long as there were no obvious sugars, starches, or grains.
Except for this cold...it was a wonderful trip. I am worried about my sister and her husband. Both are very overweight and my sister is on insulin. Watching them eat on the ship, (of course, it was very exaggerated) made me realize how far I have come. I use to eat just like them. I pray to God that I set an example and they both will start working on their health. I didn't nag them. I just ate and drank within my higher LC perimeters that I allowed on this trip.
However, the best thing that has come out of this experience, is my dear, diabetic, hubby, has finally decided to go LC with me! He will not be as LC as I am...but he is eliminating grains, most sugars, except what is found in low glycemic fruits, and starches. I am so proud of him. He is 6'7" and weighs 287 lbs this morning. As much as losing weight, since he doesn't have near as much to lose as I do, he wants to get his blood sugars under control. He is not on insulin yet...but the Dr. has said that she will put him on it if he doesn't improve by his next check up...which is Monday. I don't think they will have improved enough in that short of time, but maybe she will give him extension since he is also going LC. We will see.
I have also learned that, finally, LC is ingrained in my brain. I was able to come right back to my way of eating, even though I am sick, and even though I haven't weighed, and have eaten more. I have never been able to do that before. It is, at last, a life change.
