That was me, too. My wife would pick up several 1 & 2 pound bags of candy and hide them in the downstairs closet weeks in advance of Halloween. She always bought WAY MORE than needed for trick-or-treaters 'cause she wanted to have lots of leftovers for herself. I'd try to stay out of it, but often didn't succeed. Once I had a bag open, I'd dip into it everyday before until it was gone. That happened almost every year.
By the time Halloween rolled around last year, I was well on my way to being firmly established with this WOE. I told my wife not to hide the candy that year. She left it on the kitchen table where I could see it everyday. I wanted to desensitize myself to it. I figured that if I saw it everyday and stayed out of it, that would help me deal with other situations -- like all the junk being put out at work over the holidays. I did stay out of it. Not one bite. I sat at that table carving pumpkins with my daughters with the candy bucking sitting full and within reach. The pull to eat it was all but gone. The key is that I did stay out of it. I may not have been ready for that kind of a challenge during the first few months when I was still heavily addicted to carbs. So don't try to do what I did unless you know you are ready for it.
