Hey! I just wanted to thank everyone for posting on this thread and especially to Omablue for starting both the June and July threads.

I see a doctor who started me on this low carb WOE. She started as an OB/GYN who was frustrated telling her patients to lose weight when she was overweight herself. Long story short, she lost 80 pounds herself and has become certified in obesity medicine. She now exclusively helps women lose weight.

I had my monthly appointment yesterday. I have lost 61 pounds since my first visit in December 2014. Both my doctor and her nurse were doing the "Happy Dance" for me and were disappointed that I was not as enthusiastic as they were. I told her I was a bit bummed because I had hit 219 almost a week and a half ago before going up 3 pounds.

She told me that it was perfectly normal and had happened to her several times in her weight loss. Now in maintenance she fluctuates 2-3 pounds and gets up to 5 pounds around TOM. She weighs every day and gets bummed sometimes too. Her husband has to set her straight.

She said quote "Our bodies are weird." "Weight loss is not linear." She also told me not to get too stressed out about it because then our bodies make cortizol. Cortizol makes it harder to sleep (and lose weight) and can make you mentally crave the wrong kinds of foods. She told me to focus on the good things and not to get obsessed with the number going down every day.

So that brings me back to the June and July threads. I was able to put the two together and see the trend she was talking about. Very helpful and encouraging.

Thanks everyone for posting. Hope you don't mind me posting what my doctor said. I found it encouraging and thought someone else might, too.

Renee, I wish I had a doctor like that! Another thing is that when you lose
a lot of weight you have to update your diet to suit your new body.
I've just started losing again after a stall. The only thing that seem to help was to cut
my fat intake, down from 85% to 70% which will lower my total calories as well and
re-start my weight loss. I realised I was eating like a 250 lbs person
when I'm now only 150 lbs and was eating for maintenance but not for weight loss.
I still eat under 20 net carbs a day bit more greens than I used to.

I only eat twice a day. This was the hardest to change, - to only eat when hungry and
stop when full. We're a creature of habit and to not eat just
because it is time to eat was incredibly hard to change but the most important.

totally agree. It's been most helpful to see my ups and downs and to see everyone else's progress. Weight loss is definitely not linear. sighhh

Good to know about adjusting your diet to your current weight and not your previous one.

I have a food journal which my doc looks at every single entry for the month. As long as I am losing, she won't change my diet and then I have to be the same weight for 4 weeks.
