For about two weeks I have noticed mild hair loss. The first time was when I washing my hair, I looked down at my hands and saw maybe ten strands. At first I was like, "What the heck is this? Dog hair?". The second day I found about the same amount, and from then on the same amount whenever I wash my hair. Poor hair. . .who knows what the cause of this is. My body is going through so many changes since I stopped eating carbohydrate crap.

Sadly yes - in chunks!!!!!

its devasting because while my hair is thick and very long - if this carries on i will have thinning hair

I counted 20 of my hairs in the shower plug today.

Cant cope if it continues.

This happened to me too. I started losing handfuls in late November (3 months after beginning Atkins) and it didn't stop until last week, almost exactly 3 months later.

There seems to already be a lot of small hairs growing in, although my ponytail is looking a little sad now. But by no means does it look thinning which almost surprises me - I lost SO much.

I believe that for me this was solely from the stress of entering ketosis. I have lost relatively little weight, and my carbs were already low when I started Atkins - just not low enough for ketosis. I think converting one's metabolism might be a stressful thing for some of us.

My hair loss is pretty mild...just enough so that I notice it...but not on my head...in the shower when I'm washing my hair...very small clumps will come out...I'm talking 10 strands or so. So not too bad...but definately way more than usual. Good poll.

A little but maybe I'm just looking for it since I saw this post. I understand we always lose some hair every day.

Just this morning I thought about starting this thread... and here it is as a poll.

While drying my hair this morning a probably lost 50 hairs as a was combing through my hair.

When DH cleaned the shower drain out last week he swore we had lost a poodle in there.

I lost a lot of hair due to low-fat dieting for many years. Since starting my low-carb lifestyle, my hair loss has stabilized. It hasn't gotten thicker yet but I'm hoping that it will.

I lost tons of hair while I was on Weight Watchers. It fell out for over a year. My ponytail was down to 1/4 inch in diameter. I also lost my gallbladder while on that diet. Don't get me wrong....I am not knocking the diet (because I hate diet-bashing), but back then they didn't emphasize eating fats like they do now.

Since then, I've been LCing for about 2 years, and all my hair is back and it's really grown fast. My fingernails grow fast too!

Isn't that part amazing? I take a lot of glutamine, and this really makes your nails grow too, from what I've experienced.

Hmmmm I'm not sure if my hairloss is due to Atkins or the fact that I had a baby 4 months ago, could be either but I'm definately losing hair!

I tried to PM you, but you're too new!

How about you start up a new thread, maybe post up what you are eating. Go to www.fitday.com and enter it all in so it can tell you how your foods break down - grams of protein, carbs, fat, fibre, and also the PERCENTAGES of these macronutrients.

If your fats are lower than 65% of total calories, you might be having trouble. I know I would. But there can be other problems too - frankenfoods, not enough water...

Hang in there - we'll get you sorted out.

Hi

Hair loss can be caused by a deficiency of zinc in the diet. One main source of zinc is from grains aka bread. If you are taking multivites and this is still happening try taking a chelated zinc tablet daily and see if this helps

Cheers
Sharon
