Default ACCORD final analysis

Jenny Ruhl posted this article about the final analysis of the ACCORD study, which sought to analyze the effects of lowered HbA1c levels on heart attack risk. The study researchers originally came out with an opinion that lowering A1c below 6.5 was actually dangerous, and for years diabetics using low carb diets to lower their blood sugars and A1c's have been warned by some doctors that it was dangerous to do so.

That finding has now been corrected in the latest report.

Well, I fit in the category of people not offered help by diabetes doctor to get tighter blood sugar control. Fortunately low carb has already brought it down into the impaired range, but when I asked about treatment to bring it down to non-diabetic levels, was told so long as my A1C is below 7% I'm considered good to go, no treatment needed or offered. Trying to look on the bright side I guess is saving money on doctor bills since no reason to bother to go back and I can just keep treating it on my own with low carb and no risk of side-effects from meds, since treatment isn't being offered. I had figured if lowered A1C's did really lead to bad outcomes in the study it would be from using drugs with the risk of unhealthy side effects to lower blood sugars and that doing so drug-free through lower carb/healthier diet would not incur those risks. So I basically ignored the doctor's recommendation to just stay below 7% and am still trying to stay as much lower as I reasonably can through diet, exercise, that sort of stuff I can just do on my own.
