Let's call it what it is...Stage 1 Diabetes. Really made me think about the difference the name makes, the different attitude your doctor would have about advice.

Wonderful new website with many links to low carb information, not just diabetes.

I wonder where things like reactive hypoglycaemia would fit on a new stages of diabetes? I had it for many years before my fasting glucose became higher. It is a sign of severe insulin disorder and eventually leads to diabetes. Had I been told this at 20 (rather than to 'eat something sugary' when my blood glucose tanked), I think I would have taken it more seriously too.

A link to this women"s blog was posted on the WB FB:

I’ve been an Atkins follower since 2003, and I always knew that I felt better eating that way. From my medical lab training, I knew that not all calories are created equal, and protein is most efficient. Read more about that on my page Biochem 101. However, since reading Wheat Belly a few months ago, I realized that it’s much more than just carbs alone.

The main gist is that wheat has all kinds of proteins we are not equipped to digest. Those proteins cause a chronic inflammation throughout the body that filter into all sorts of problems. Many were problems I did not realize were diet related! I had still been eating things like low carb tortillas, but those still had some wheat in them. (Going completely grain free was not a huge leap for me, but I still need to find some compliant tortillas for my enchiladas!)

The story continues, with photos....

Why some of us encourage giving up all grains and trying the WB version of low carb.

Dr Davis will be back on PBS, check your local stations for times. He was prominently pictured in our PBS program guide that arrived by mail. The show is a good simple summary.

Dr. Davis made his Fourth appearance on Dr. Oz this week. Wish he wouldn't, I had to watch another stupid Oz animation, this time with the gut membrane as a bouncer but there are many posters on his FB page who found him and grain-free eating through Oz. His all-purpose baking mix recipe is here:

http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/2015/...detox-on-dr-oz/

His newest book, The 10 day Wheat Belly Grain Detox, will be released on the 10th. It is supposed to be more of a "starter guide" so if you are already grain-free, it might not have much new info. Because all his previous books are so very popular, our library has ordered many copies of this too.

His new book didn't have anything new, and I just didn't think it as good as the previous two. Even his two cookbooks are better.

But...his special show based on Total Health will be back again on PBS's big Winterfest fund-raiser. Check here if it will be in your market: http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/2016/...l-airing-again/

Thanks. I sure wish! A cruise with low carb drink and desserts!

What a world that would be.

I did go on three of Jimmy Moore's low carb cruises. In fact met Dr. Davis on one of them as he was one of the presenters, prior to his book. This cruise is probably the same idea except it looks like Dr. Davis will be doing most of the presentations himself rather than having a dozen different people present as Jimmy did.

But this cruise looks like fun. It's at a time of year I would prefer over the LC cruises (which are in May, thus too hot for me), and it goes to ports of call I would prefer going to. It would be tempting except I've already paid a non-refundable deposit for an art workshop that same week.

Good to remember that the group is only a teeny-weeny part of the several thousand on the ship, so of course carby food is everywhere! However I found it easy to stay on track since food is plentiful with lots of LC choices. I ate like a LC pig on my first cruise and came home two pounds lighter.

But there are no carb police so I still saw the LC cruise organizers eating bagels one day, and Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt chowing down on pancakes. But then again he appears to be one of those constitutionally lean sorts who can eat anything and not gain.

He was a presenter on the first cruise I went on and told us it was the first presentation he'd ever given in English, and now he has the very successful dietdoctor site!

Also Celebrity is a few notches above Carnival, known for its cuisine. I saw reports from the first cruise that there were special LC dishes offered in the dining room, and the group had some catered events. I have sailed with Celebrity a number of times in the last six years as a low carber and never have a problem finding LC food or having the meal customized, but you have to be at the point that being around a lot of carby food doesn't derail you

At the conference lunch I attended, it was sandwiches on fancy artisan bread, potato OR pasta salad, some kind of cupcake OR apples and oranges.

I gutted a couple of sandwiches and was grateful I'd had steak and eggs for breakfast

I really like your phrase -- "gutted a couple of sandwiches" -- when you take out the good stuff and ditch the bread!

Dr Davis has been doing an interesting (and possibly risky) call out on his Facebook to previous "success stories". Are you still on Wheat Belly and what has happened since you posted first success?
Wow, there are some amazing updates. People continuing to lose, no problem sticking with his diet, no regain, check them out over the past few weeks. https://www.facebook.com/OfficialWheatBelly/

Dr Davis re-posted an article from last year with a detailed explanation of his diet rules vs. "Paleo diets".
Interesting summary of why some foods are in his list and not in others. http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/2015/...eolithic-human/
